Hey guys, when I bought my project JD 316 it came with a 38" deck in bad shape. I picked up a 46" in good shape and tried to install it today. I've never installed the deck before or taken the old one off to see where everything goes, so i'm flying blind. I can't seem to find any pics online here either. So, I have the trailing arms hooked to the frame, the mule hooked up, and a belt too long because its for the 38" deck. My big question, how does the deck lift? Am I missing a bracket that goes in that hole in the trailing arm and connects to that L shaped bracket on the frame? The 38" deck has small 8" length of chain bolted to it, but that looks jerry rigged. Does anyone have pics of the lift arms and how they connect?

Plus 16 ,6 14 and 11 and provided your 316 is a late model open frame version of the 316 and not the early version of the 316.

What is the model no of the 46" mower deck? If it is a M00596 it wont work on an early model 316.

Not sure if that deck will work on your tractor BUT if it will all you need is the one 13 and there is one similar on the other side that uses the parts you have in the red square.they attach to the part in # 3 post. That deck only has 2 blades, the deck that fits that tractor has 3 blades

Thanks for sticking with me here. i called the local dealer and they want $47 just for one lift strap for the left side. the right side has a J bolt apparently and they didn't stock that one. I think for $47+ I'll just get a piece of metal and make my own. At least now I know what I'm missing :thanku:

Mdelgado you have an open frame 316. Did you get the diagram you posted above out of catalog 1935, specifically Grid A12 page 12 with the "page Name: Draft Arms and Lift Straps?

I have the Operators Manual for the 46 In mid Mount Rotary 300 Series tractors pub Om-M78995 Apr 88 for Model Id no M00596. It shows the use of spring fasteners on the rear draft arms like those on your M00596 46" mower deck. Said differently the draft arms( ie. Lift Arms) have pins and a spring that are an integral part of the draft arm as depicted in the diagram you posted above. My Jd 300 has what I would call a mounting bracket on each side with the pin and spring being a integral part of the mounting bracket unlike the 316 and 318 where the spring and pin are on the draft arm.

Now that you have posted a picture of your 46 " deck I see it has 14 and 11( see my post above) but not 1-6 nor 16 set fort in your diagram above. I don't know if the diagram posted by Biker 3777.will work on your 316. I think you need a device similar or the same as you show in your #3 post above as it looks like the device that my 50'" deck mounts to on my 318. I have heard that a late model 316 is a kissing cousin to a 318 with almost everything the same except the 316 lacks power steering.

Also be aware that the mule drive for the M00596 is unlike that used on a early 316, 300, 312 and 314 but is the same as the one on my 318
