I just replaced the steering gear colume in my 300 yesterday. It had a lot of play in the steering and the colume moved around and it steered hard.I found a steering colume near me on Ebay that came out of a 316 and was in very good shape. It has a little play in the steering but steers a lot better and easier and know more loose moving around colume. Was well worth the time and a little agrivation to remove and replace.
Rebuilding is a option but mine was in bad shape. So I went with a salvaged colume.
Thanks for the replies guys. I was able to get some of it out by adjusting the sector and some more by bushing up a bolt hole in a arm off the sector. Got it back to where I can live with it. The rest is in the tie rod ends etc. But It's not too bad now
