Suddenly without warning, my JD 3010 wont go into the upper range (3,5,7,8)....when I shift into them, and let out the clutch...it just grinds horribly. Though the tractor does want to advance. Now and then I can still get into road gear but it is rare. The other range and reverse work fine.

Any advice on if it is a hard repair or more of an adjustment of sorts.
I did replace the T-fluid and filter.

It is possible that there is too much play in the shifter area. If that is the case, then you should be able to get it in gear if you wiggle the shifter into the proper spot. If it is not possible at all to get into all of the upper ranges, then probably transmission synchronizers, shift forks, gears, and/or bearings are probably worn out and will require tractor to be split. Either way, I would recommend repairing all external shift linkage first to rule out that possibility.
