300 H2 to H3

How hard is it to put an H3 valve off a 400 onto a 300? I have it stripped down right now for painting and engine overhaul. Just curious if alot of fabricating had to be done or if it was pretty much bolt in.

:thanku:

I've added H3 to my 318, but not a 300. I would imagine that it would be easier as the 300 is more open and easier to work on. I'm happy to help in any way I can.

Good to see another fellow NE resident on here.
I just looked at the parts on JDPARTS.com and the valve levers looks VERY similar if not identical. The "Bearing" as they call it...........the piece that the levers actually slide through is the same part number......that much I know.
The only thing that may need to be modified is the mount (bolt holes) for the H3 valve. That is only thing on the 420 to 318 conversion that isn't pretty straight forward and uniform.

Since you have it apart - now is the time.
Yeah you'll need to modify the way the valve body mounts to the tractor frame because the steering box won't allow it to mount normally.
After looking at the two valves it does look really straight forward. Just a matter of unhooking everything and installing the new valve and fabbing lines for the 3rd valve. We'll have to see if it's in the budget or not. I'd really like it to be since I have the dash tower off, but the finance department isn't too fond of the whole project to begin with so we'll see. I have a line on a 400 that needs engine work, but has no deck. If I can get it for the right price I'll wait to put the H3 on the 300.
