2305 Transmission Fan Guard

After reading the horror stories about the repair price for the plastic fan on the 2305s I found on eBay a fellow who makes a Fan Guard. For $98 delivered I got one and installed it yesterday. JD has a small (3") guard directly under the fan which is removed and the same mounting bolts are used. There is an additional bolt & nut required (and supplied) which fits in a bracket welded to the frame. Easy one wrench (1/2") installation and the peace of mind is priceless. The seller's eBay ID is: "inventive" and he ships very quickly. However he only makes a few at time and and then the ads go away. I had to check back 2 times before I caught up with him. Worth the wait.

I've tried to copy the image from eBay but they are pretty good about preventing that.

Clint that is great piece of mind! Seemed like it was a little higher when I had checked his listings earlier this year. For what I understand it is compatable with the mid mount mower.:fing32:

No interference what so ever.
Can I get a part number, or seller info or something go search EBAY by?
The fellow from whom I bought the guard name on eBay is:

If that link does not work for you, just search on ebay for his name: eventive

I saw the guard once and when I went to buy it, it was gone. I sent him a message on eBay and he replied he would make some more and post them, which he did. I am more than pleased with the guard and have been taking my 2305 into the heavier brush.
I looked at a few and am going to go with this one. Was quoted a price of $212.000 and it looks much sturdier and covers much more.

I like the protection the Skid Plate offers but I don't like the fact I would have to remove it to use my MMM. I mow more than I use the FEL or BB so my mower is on most of the time. The Transmission Fan Guard, while it covers much less, is left on at all times.

Clint,
I'm thinking about getting one of the tranny fan plates. Do you have any pics of it?
Thanks
Joe
Thanks, Clint. That is the first time I have seen that one. I wonder if it will also fit the 2210? Protects both the filter and fan, right?

Nope - I tried to "steal" a picture off eBay but was not able to.

1. I don't know about the 2210.
2. No - Only the fan - the fellow who makes them also sells a Filter Guard.

The cost of both is about the cost of the Skid Plate but you do not have to remove them to use a MMM. You do however have to remove the filter guard to change the filter.

He has a Filter Guard on eBay now - use the link above for the seller and click on "Items for Sale" on the left hand side under the "picture".
Oh well, I need something to protect both fan and filter. I went to the site and saw a photo of the guard. Looks good, but I will have to get something for fan and filter, don't have MMM to worry about getting in way.

Here's a link to a sticky I also don't have a MMM and don't see one ever in my future. I was quoted $212.00.

Thanks 2CED. I do like the idea of it being compatable with the MMM. Jeff (INVENTIVE on Ebay) e-mailed me he will have more for sale in about a week. I think i'll get one & let you guys know how it goes.

I got mine today. Jeff on ebay is quick once he has them in stock. I ordered it Monday and here it is already. Looks pretty tough and easy to install. You guys who have this one, anything I need to know before installation or is it pretty straight forward?

It is pretty straight forward on the install. You will need an open end or a box end wrench for the two bolts on the transmission. They presently hold a very small guard that protects nothing. Loosen them (no need to remove) till you can slide the stock guard off. Slide the new guard on from the top. The supplied carriage bolt goes through the bracket that holds a spring end, from the top down. The square shoulder fits into the square slot so no wrench is required to hold it while tightening the nut. Once I had the carriage bolt in and the nut started it was just a matter of tightening the transmission bolts using the box end through the little holes and then the nut on the carriage bolt using a socket on a ratchet.
