222 w/kohler k301 stumbles under load

I recently purchased my 222. I knew it had a stumbling problem and now I am sorting it out. The engine idles fine and runs smooth. When I crank up the rpm and put it under load it will start to stumble and want to die until I back the throttle back down. I pulled and cleaned the carb. I was surprised when I pulled the float bowl off that it was empty. Float needle moves freely. I am thinking fuel pump. What says the group?

Is there a rebuild kit available for the metal pump or am I better off the just get one of the plastic ones?

Thanks in advance, Chris

Replace your points and condenser, set the to about .020/21
Agree fully with MB ... point gap sets the timing on these and that can be a major performance shortfall. Also confirm you are running at 3400-3600 rpm unloaded high throttle. These will gladly run at higher idle, but load them up and they'll tail off hard.

I am not familiar with a rebuild kit for the original fuel pump ... the aftermarkets seem to have been supporting our customers well for many years.

Yes, there are. I got one last year, rebuilt the metal pump and it kept stopping to pump once the engine warmed up. I got a plastic replacement and have had no problems since.

Mike,

I am in Butler. Do you know anywhere that would stock the points, condenser and a fuel pump? I tried Bill's, Engine Repair and B&B.
You're in Butler? No way. Im in the falls.

I go to Engine Service off Carmen/Hwy 100/Lovers Lane/ Silver Spring
