2001 JD 445 54" Blade

16714 Views 37 Replies 17 Participants Last post by  Mxrider4life847
I am looking to get the 54" blade with the hydraulic angle kit this fall for my 2001 JD 445. I have already fabbed up a weight bracket with 4 suitecase weights (160 lbs total) for extra traction. I have the plain turf tires, so I am thinking I will need to get some tire chains. Does anyone have an idea of the price of all of this will be? Does the quick hitch and blade come together or separately, and does the quick hitch come with the lock out valve from the dealer?? I don't have one installed on my unit. I have been Checking JD Part Catalog online but cant find the correct part numbers.......... Am I also correct to assume that this blade would fit on an X700 series tractor someday if I ever decide to upgrade??

Thanks,
Tyler

Foundryman, welcome to the forum. The rear valve from JD is about $70 not sure on the 54 inch pricing but if you get the quick-tatch style it will mount to the x7xx series if you have the quick-tatch mount on it. If you go to the JD parts page for your tractor look at attachments it's all on there!

If its any indication, here in CT I just saw a hitch and blade package for sale by a private seller. He was asking 850 for the set. Based on some similar packages I've seen on Ebay, that seems about right, maybe a touch high. But then again premium pricing may come in to play with winter right around the corner. I bought my lockout valve on ebay for around 70. Good luck!
Tyler,

According to a JD writeup the blade would fit but the quick hitch would not transfer between the 445 and x7xx series.

Hi -

Am a newbie. Recently purchased a JD 445 and am looking to buy a 54" front blade w/quick hitch and 4 way hydraulics. The one I'm considering came off of a 420 - could anyone comment on whether it should work on the 445 without modification if it worked on the 420.

Thanks so much for your help!
I believe the 420 is almost a different era from the 425/445/455's. I cannot confirm bracket compatibility from experience, but I am 95% sure I've seen pictures of manuals which list several 300 series and 420/430 models together for compatibility, but I have never seen one that showed 420/430 equipment compatible with 425/445/455. Also, I think even the 430 requires a special bracket to make 420 equipment compatible with it.

It won't work without modifications.
You guys are incredible - the depth of knowledge at MTF is overwhelming!

Apparently there was some mis-communication on the part of the middle-man on this deal - the blade came off of a 425 and his service guy made the following comments:

"The 425 and 445 are identical (as far as this application) except the 445 came standard with the hydraulic couplers while the 425 did not. He has them on his tractor I can see them in the picture.

The hitch will work and so will the hoses if they fit on a 425.

Only question might be if his couplers are okay/leak/etc.

The tractors are the same as far as the front ends and where the hoses go."

Does this sound legit? If so, I'm ready to make the drive to snag it!

Thanks again,

Peter

That makes a huge difference. Yes, it will fit right on your tractor if it came from a 425. I wouldn't be too concerned about the couplers as they rarely have any major issues. You'll want a lockout valve on your tractor for running the blade, but that can be added later. If you're feeling ambitious (and they still have the 425 sitting there), you could take the elbow out of your tractor and swap it with the lockout valve that's in his tractor. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position to get you pics of that right now; you should be able to search "lockout valve" and find more info. It's not the end of the world, though, since you can buy a new one for less than $100.
Here is an interesting compatibility CHART for your consideration. :goodl:

I believe the X7xx series will accept the X5xx implements. Someone please confirm!

Thanks Everyone -

Thanks Diesel - Am going to go buy that blade!

MN - Will save the compatability chart for future reference.
So will a quick hitch with blade fit right onto a X7XX series other than the hoses? I am getting conflicting answers.

Better get it before somebody else does. :fing32:

From a 4x5? Yes. The only drawback is you can't have the mid mount mower installed at the same time (not a big deal for most people).
No, The front quick hitch is different but the blade is the same, The front quick hitch from a 425 will only fit a 425, 445 and 455. John Deere Front Quick-Hitch and Hydraulic Lift Kit - BM19782 for x700 series, John Deere Front Quick-Hitch - BM17347 for 425, 445 and 455.

I didn't see anyone post yet but if you don't want the JD lockout this one is great: I changed my 445 JD lockout to this quick 1/4 turn one!

And yes tire chains will be needed if you only have turfs - you will love this thing come winter time!:thThumbsU
