Hey guys. Looking at all my 2 cycle machines it is apparent to me that there are two types of primer pumps they use. One type, found on my Poulans, circulates fuel through the pump side of the carburetor. It doesn't actually put fuel into the engine, you can pump it all day long. The other type, found on my Homelite and McCulloch weedeaters, actually squirts fuel into the throat of the carb. If you pump it enough you can flood it. Is one type better than the other? Is there a reason why some machines have one type instead of the other? Until now, I thought all 2 cycle primer pumps were the first type.

I think it depends on the type of carb used.
