Update on my starter issue: The starter seems fine, the flywheel gear doesn't look pretty in a few spots. We shimmed the starter closer to the flywheel with washers about 1/16 thick. It still a little noisy but seems to be starting just fine. I also had some corroded connections. We ordered a starter and have that on hand for the future if need be. We will replace the flywheel if we tear into it again.

Questions:
1) Trans fluid level. Just want to confirm, fill until fluid comes halfway up the clear vent tube in between the 2 brackets (about 2" apart, u shaped) holding the tube? Bought 5 quarts and filter. Lost about 1/2 a **** quart on the ground trying to fill though that **** filler neck. :banghead3 Filter also was of much larger capacity but threads and gasket lined up correctly.

2) What is up with no grease fitting on the deck spindles???

3) Can someone tell me what I did with the nuts and bolts for the deck belt covers??? :fing20:

2b) Are they at least serviceable?
1. yes

2. they have sealed bearings

2b. no need

3. they are in the last place you'll look
This clear tube. Is it supposed to be connected to somewhere else on the transaxle. Was just reading about this in another thread. Mine is just clipped under the fenders. Also, I read something about a sight glass. Where would this be and what is different about that and the sight tube in the back?

My tube come out of the rear end, then goes up to the sight glass/sight tube (same thing), then goes up to a fitting higher up on the rear end.
Up to the sight glass??? My clear tube come outs about 1/2 up the back of the transaxle. It is one continuous piece of clear tube which routes through the U shaped metal bracket then straight up under the fenders to a clip. There is nothing made of glass or hard plastic for that matter?? I am confused.
The sight glass should be in that bracket but you dont need it with clear hose. just fill it till the fluid is in the middleof that bracket.

PA316GUY I'm sure yours had the sight glass at one time. we used tiny hose clamps ( top and bottom) to hold it in.
It lives, as said before, just after the curve, heading straight up so you can see it and it can sit straight up and for level
Here's a shot of the whole tube arrangement.
