Here is the tractor I am building this year at the tech center, I got it at the same junkyard as the last one(the one above). I bought this one for $110. I just had to get it because the quality of the Sears brand just grabbed me. So im hopin to go for round two and win the modified class, the weight of the class was bumped for 800lbs to 850lbs this year so thats good. Anyways here are some pics, ive had the tractor for several months now but just now gettin somewhere worth posting, so here ya go.
Here's when me and my brother got it home.....

Couple of engine shots, pulled the head, had a stuck valve, forgot which one by this time, but the enigne is all torn down to bare block, got new rings for it and having the same couple buddys build the engine again this year.

Also the wiring was a cob job, so that will have to be all redone.
Here are some recent pics as of a few days ago, got the tractor stripped and degreased for the most part, primed, and shot a couple coats of Rustoleum Industrial Yellow on it. Not pictured, i have the fenders painted, the front axle done ready to go back on. I also got a pair of tri-rib front tires for Christmas, got one of them all mounted and painted, sorry no pic of that yet, but they will be goin on.

Hope to do well, thanks for lookin and readin

Great looking ST12!!!! Notice the one side of the nose says ST12, and the other says ST16, wonder how that happened!
The pic of the tractor that has ST/16 on the hood was a different hood and nose that my brother bought seperately because the steel part was in alot better shape than the ST/12 hood. The ST/12 nose is now on the steel hood from the ST/16. Confused? lol
I am looking forward to May when the pull is. It would be cool if he could take the modified trophy two years in a row with an old 12hp Sears.

haha I can get u that modified trophy! if u had the money to get the parts for that motor that u need, u can beat almost any other motor...only a decent built kohler would get it...U still got that hood from the ST16? im kinda in the market for one...im building a cub with sears metal and am missing the all important hood to make the st16!

The steel part of the ST 16 hood is now on the ST 12. The fiberglass nose on the ST 12 was a little better than the ST 16 nose though.

What are some of the parts you are talking about for the motor and estimated cost for parts?

well when I bought mine 3 years ago, it cost me almost $350...and will push a 12hp tecumseh up to 30cubic inches, and somewhere around 18 or more hp with a better head design...and their factory parts from a tecumseh...id have to find the part #'s again to get them, well to see if they are even still available!

Sorry its been a while for me, had homework to do lol, but thank you thats pretty awesome, i dont really want to spend that much but i would like to win!!. I know a guy that could mill the head for me for a few bucks so thatll help a little bit right? just bump the compression up a touch. I would like to know what to do, my instructor has told me on his gocarts he used to race they would cut an offset key so the flywheel is off, so it fires little early or something like that and jumps the hp, so im gunna do that.

Welp tomarrow is tractor day since its friday, ive got my rear fenders and axle painted and ready to go back on, painted me rear end semi gloss black yesterday in open shop, tomarrow i plan to get a rolling chassis and make all the other kids jealous of my nice sears with tri ribs and ags!!:D:drunkie:.....should have pics again soon

What kinda tires are you running on the back? I saw the post about ags, but what size?

I will most likely borrow my brothers 10.5/12 ags off is 69 sub. for the pulls. Im not goin to use the ones form last year (ones in the avitar) just because they are getting softer and the middle folds reducing traction, and they are a bugger to get on and off with the weight on the inside like that having to slide it over the hub, since they do weight 100lbs a piece (tire, rim and weight) haha

shave the head yes will help...as for off set keys...u dont need the key..throw it away and just move the flywheel...My hot rod 10 ran just fine with the stock timing...Tecumseh actually made these engines variable timing..it advances itself once it reached like 800rpms..the long pin is the retarted timing to start, and the short pin is for once its wound up...

I got a rolling chassis. I got my front axle and spindles put back on, also fenders, ags, and tri-ribs that I got for Christmas. Tomorrow I got to wire in the new tail light, bolt on the seat spring and tool box. I got the engine block painted the same yellow, just put on the second coat a little bit ago, looks great.

Thanks for lookin:trink40:
