The Sonny's shows that the 1886 and the HT23 both used the peerless transaxle. Was there much difference between the two transalxes? I've heard bad things about this 'bull gear' is that just in the sunstrand? Sorry for all the questions but I may look into an HT23 someday to run my 2 stage blower.

Hey Ed did you ever get this question answered? I just looked on sonny's website. I saw that the HT20 and HT18 ran the same sundstrand15. The HT23 used the Eaton 11 2-speed. I didn't see that anything was X'ed out for the peerless. I am still trying to learn more about Bolens.

No answer yet, I know the HT23 used the eaton 11, just was not sure on the transaxle/gear setup.

The HT 23 has an Eaton 11 hydro and the two speed transaxle is made by Bolens. I have the same setup in my GT2000. Never had a problem or heard of an HT23 having a problem with low gear.

The only problem that I'm aware of is the bolts on the bull gear can loosen over time and cause a problem.
There were several discussions about this on the Yahoo Bolens groups.

Thanks guys, I've thought about an HT23 at some point, I guess I could steal parts from my spare 1886's if necessary.

What do you mean by parts?

The 1886-01 thru 1886-04 rearends used a different setup then the 1886-50 and up.So parts will not interchage. The bull gear used in the 1886-05 thru the ht-23 was only a big problem on the 1886-05-06 and the HT20.And would blow out on the inside casting where the pinion pin would wear and brake the casting down over time.Bolens did a change to the setup on the HT20D and HT23.by spliting the pinon shaft and using a dowel pin and a compression spring to lock the shaft better in the housing.

Great info, thank you much. That makes me like the HT23 as an option.

I was thinking just general stuff like that would be common between an 1886 and and HT23, maybe there is not much common as I don't own an HT23. Between those spare 1886's I could restore and make one really nice one someday just not sure what I want to do for my next project. I think the HT23 would drive my 2 stage blower better than another 1886.

That was what I was thinking your question was. I am glad I asked. Very interesting reading whenever someone asks a technical question about Bolens. They really had some great engineers.
