Hey guys, been haunting the site for a while but thought I better register now that I actually have a problem.
I've done lots of wrenching, but mostly on Jeeps... small engines are not my thing. Actually, I don't mind them, but I think that they don't like me.
Anyhow, on with the show.

17hp Tecumseh single lung on a rider.
Just quit the other day. Did the usual things to trouble shoot, everything came back good, spark, fuel, air, but still no run.
Pulled the cover off of the lifters and one of the pushrods fell out at my feet. Put it back in and put rocker back in position but don't know how much load the lifter gets.. if any at all.
So now that I've got it back together I've got 150psi of compression which is WAY too much. I think that there is something wrong with the de-compression set up but don't really know how to check/set that up.
Any ideas would be great.
And yeah, I already know..... should have bought a Briggs.
Info from the cover reads
OHV17
STP490UIGR2A
490
DOM:80715

Thanks for any help.
Chris

Don't know much about the Tecumseh 17hp engines, but sounds like maybe a stuck valve? Check here for a manual...

Could possibly be a head gasket too, with high compression.
