I finally got dads twin 16 VS running. The one has a sever grinding noise coming from the cam/ramp slide thing on the right rear frame. Its got a bunch of grooves in it.

How exactly does this system work?
What would have caused this?
How best to fix it? Welding grinding fab is no concern for me.

Thanks

Hi, is the variable pulley assembly working right or is it binding and maybe not moving? On the one I had I welded the ramp up and ground it smooth trying for a nice even ramp, it worked good when I got done, but the variable pulley system has to be working nice and smooth for it to all work.

The pulley is functioning and moving in and out. How smooth is unknown since the ram is so bad all it was doing is grinding. I have to figure out how to get it off to check it. I have heard that you can replace the pulley with a fixed one? The lever on the frame was very hard to move. Is there an indent on the linkage to catch at certain spots or does is slide freely?

Hi there is an indent of sorts that's suppose to hold it where you place it, most likely with so spray lube on the pivots and joint it will loosen up, yes some replace the variable pulley with a fixed one but if the variable is working I would not remove it as its nice to have the variable speed option available. On the end of the variable pulley there is suppose to be a domed cover for the cam ramp to ride on.
