Are the parking brakes a little wonky? You have to really go out of your way to set the brake and if you don't..............well sh*t.

Right from the get go, I would put the brake on only for it to pop back out. My yard is 2 1/2 acres of hill and had the tractor for one year without issue.
On the last mow, I jumped off like I always do after setting the parking brake and went into the garage to fetch my leaf blower. Had ear protection on with some tunes as I started the blower. Look up and the tractor is gone. Tractor was done the hill 30 or so yards and bashed into some huge tree limbs that broke off a huge oak tree. Also right there, a huge pile of black dirt I had delivered a few months ago. Far as I can tell, there was no damage. But I have not been back in the yard since.
It took some time, but got it off the log and dirt pile. Thanks god they were there, or it would have been much worse.

So I'm just wondering if any of you have any issues with the parking brake?? I've done good up until last mow.
It's my first tractor and I quickly came to realization that I could not use the same habits that I used on a riding lawnmower.

Locking Park Brake:

CAUTION: Avoid Injury! Always lock park brake and move transmission range shift lever to a position other than N (neutral) before leaving machine unattended. Transmissions will not prevent machine motion without the park brake locked.

A - Brake Pedal

B - Park Brake Lock

Press down completely on brake pedal (A) with foot.

Lift park brake lock (B) completely up to the locked position.

Remove foot from brake pedal. Pedal should now stay down in the locked position and park brake light should be illuminated.

I will use the Parking Brake on my 2210 but not on any kind of a slope. You really have to make sure those things are set if you want to leave the tractor running and probably never do it on a slope of any kind. If you are going to park the tractor on something other than a level surface I try and "set anchor" like letting the FEL or the Box blade all the way down. If you were in a mower only configuration then it's a little trickier because dropping the deck doesn't really do the trick. Tractors have a funny way of moving on you when you least expect it, especially ones with hydrostatic transmissions. Trust me I know. I had both my 400 and 2210 start rolling on me when I didn't intend for them to move. I have not had any incidents like you describe but that's because I have been lucky.

Thanks for the input. I have to say there is not much I can do when getting off the tractor. Like I said, my yard is one big hill. And that means I have no place to take off my mow deck......not one spot.

I had learned to make sure the brake was set without noticing the parking brake light up. I need to add that to my check list and see if it makes a difference, and when not running to put it back into gear. I figure if the brakes still pop off with the light on, then I need to call JD about it.

When I first got the 1025R, I was lucky about the brakes. I had several neighbors stop and visit about the new green machine while I was using it. Getting off and talking, I would hear the brake popping off and I was right there to save it.

It is out of adjustment...the dealer should fix this at no charge, since it is a safety issue

Had a thankfully little incident with park brake in 1025r last week. Pulled into the barn door that the grade slopes down. Set the park brake, put in neutrals shut down and got off. I was getting something off the back of another tractor parked 4 ft in front of 1025. All of a sudden the park brake released on the 1025. Luckily I wasn't pined or worse and was able to stop 1025 with hands & body weight. Wonder if anything like this has happened to anyone else? I know I don't trust the park brake anymore. This is the only time it's happened.

The only time I've had that happen on my 2305 is if I don't push the brake pedal far enough to get good engagement on the lock. The process I use when setting the parking brake is to pull up on the lock/release lever as I push in the brake pedal and you can feel the parking brake lock engage so you know it's got a positive lock. I've left my 2305 parked on a hill with a bucket full of firewood and a concrete filled weight box on the back with no problem.
