08 Craftsman LT1000 38" Moving Trailer

I am thinking this isn't an OK idea, but figured I'd check. I just picked up a 2008 craftsman lt1000 38" 17hp mower in good shape, and it's working fine for mowing the lawn.

I have an empty 18' flat tandem car hauler, probably 1500-2000lbs. I have a flat lawn and park it empty on the non-driveway side of the house for longer-term storage when I'm not actively using it.

Is it possible for the mower to move it (empty, of course)? It would simply be more maneuverable than getting the truck through the trees.

i woulnt, remember your using a belt to drive it, and thats a lot of strain. i understand it would probably pull straight just fine, but i would be concerned when the tires scrub in a turn. although i may be completely wrong.
If your tractor is a hydro I wouldn't but if its a gear drive i would if its not to frequent. I pull my 7500lb camper around with no problems with my late 90's MTD lawn tractor all the time along with other large trailers. Just don't be surprised when something breaks if your doing it frequently

Thanks for the responses. I should have stated, it's the 6-speed manual transmission.
If it's too heavy, you could bend the hitch. I did that on my Sabre moving my tandem trailer on flat ground everytime I mowed the lawn. The transmission should probably be ok since it isn't a hydro, I wouldn't go out of first gear, maybe second.... You could put significant wear on thee drive belt however.

I bet it will pull it a lot easier than you think...if a human can push it a tractor can tow it...stopping it once its rolling will be thrilling if the tow is down any significant grade however!...leave it in the lowest gear...
Hydro or gears, no problem. Like TH says, if you can push it by hand, either transmission will do it with no wear to the drive belt or anything else. My 18' float weighs 1300 lb and tongue load is a bigger issue than actually pulling the trailer, and that's not a big issue when it's empty.

I would recommend a heavier tractor if there is a significant slope involved.

Hmm, well the cost of testing it out isn't very high, I may consider giving it a shot. It's really no incline, I literally just want to pull the trailer about 30', there's a tree in the way that makes the truck a pain.

I may also just get the tree cut down, and not fool with it.

Thanks for the information!

Ya know.... if the tongue weight is a problem, could always make up an intermediate 2 wheel 'assist' trailer, more like a tandem 'bogie'. Less wieght on the tractor rear end, and the front tires will stay on the ground.

Once moving, stopping would be my biggest concern The LT1000 brake pad (only 1) isn't the biggest thing made.

OR, you could put a ball on the front of your truck and make it easier.
