This is my prized possession. My 1973 Sears SS/16. All original. Runs and drives perfect. The SS/16 debuted in 1973, And was a huge deal for Sears, As this was the first Sears tractor availible with a twin cylinder engine, But not just any twin, But an Onan! The SS/16's mill was an Onan BF/MS 16hp twin displacing an impressive 40 cubic inches with a 3 1/8'' bore and a short 2 5/8'' stroke ableing the engine to wind up at high speeds. It featured a ductile iron crankshaft, High volume oil pump, And a large Marvel Schreiber carburetor. The engine produced a snappy 26ft/lbs of torque at a calm 2400 RPM's. Onans were well known for there superior power and dependability in generators. So its no secret that the SS/16 sold like hot cakes. Even with a $1969.98 price tag, They flew off the showroom floors. The SS/16 would sit on Sears showroom floors for an additional 5 years before being discontinued. Changes were made in 1976 such as the dash that featured a two way switch that allowed for an electric 3 point hitch, Larger 3 1/2 gallon fuel tank was standard, rear tires went from 23-9.50x12 to a wider 23-10.00x12, and the rear end was upgraded to a heavier duty 6 pinion with splined axles.
