Just like with hydraulics, the liquid cooled engines are no more complicated than anything else. It’s a water pump, thermostat, some hoses, and coolant. Simple and cheap, yet helps longevity. Granted, on a belt-driven machine it’s likely overkill, but you get into the HDGT’s like the 400’s then...
  2. Rotatable Mower Deck?

    John Deere Forum
That’s a good idea. The pins on my 54C were always a bear; 48C seems to release them smoother. Dry lithium spray helps those parts as well.

The hydraulics on a tractor are no less reliable than those on your street vehicles. Once you go to hydraulic you’ll never go back.

How much brush cutting do you realistically expect to cut? Is it something that would be easy enough to do with a trimmer and the correct attachment? If so, a belt driven 300 series (325/335/345/355 and the GX-prefix of them) can be found in your budget and would handle hills and obstacles. You...
  5. Rotatable Mower Deck?

I’d also presume the rotatable gauge wheels were what he was referring to. While the 54” for the 300’s had the rotating wheels, the 48” (48C/Convertible/Edge) did not. It wasn’t until the Edge Xtra decks for X300/X500 that the rotatable wheels were on a 48C (which were then being referred to as...
  6. Will A JD X360 54" mower deck fix/work under a JD345

    John Deere Forum
Good luck! Post back with how it ends up. I was considering doing the same as there were several X300 decks that popped up on Marketplace this last summer with virtually no use for a couple hundred bucks. Never pulled the trigger, though, as I didn’t need another project.

If that’s the case, might as well toss a new thermostat in there while you’ve got it apart.

Yes, it has been done. Check this thread out: https://www.mytractorforum.com/threads/gx345-deck-compatibility-will-a-48c-from-an-x320-fit.1294217/
  9. X500 upgrade

    John Deere Forum
That’s not an upgrade considering you’re giving up hydraulic lift and steering. If just looking to get a newer machine that’s comparable to your GX345 then you need to be looking for a X540

Facebook Marketplace will likely yield the best results, but certainly list it in the classifieds here and also try craigslist as there are still some stragglers holding out on that site.
  11. X590 Transmission Drain Plugs

I sure hope I’m still able to get down on the garage floor when I’m 75. By choice to work on stuff, that is - not because I’ve fallen and can’t get up!

That is literally how 4wd/4x4 systems work in all vehicles. Only a locking differential keeps both wheels spinning in all circumstances.

How many times do you expect it to take you to figure out the size?! 😂
  14. What should I be looking for?

    John Deere Forum
You might want to ask this in the SCUT section. This section will either convince you to stick with your 425 or get a X700 series.

I don’t understand how people sell those weights for $50 when new is $54, but people seem to all the time. Definitely “pays” to always be at the ready for deals as I’d say you made out entirely on all that stuff

I’ve been trying to sell just the blade for $300, but I’ve had virtually no interest - not even a low ball offer. Maybe these attachments aren’t worth much for these tractors anymore... I wonder how long he had been trying to sell all that - he buy a new machine?
  19. 345 Drive Belt Replacement

    John Deere Forum
@inspectorudy - did you ever happen to pull the pulley off the hydro to check? I was surprised how it felt OK just trying to move by hand, but it was stripped:
  20. 345 Drive Belt Replacement

    John Deere Forum
The pulley splines are softer metal than the shaft coming out of the hydro. This is obviously by design because it would be much more costly to replace the hydro than the pulley. Anyway, there is a LOT of tension on that pulley - it’s a drive belt, after all. So, even though it seems like it’s...
