  1. 1969 Sears Suburban 12 Diesel project update

    Craftsman/Sears Forum
Yea I saw the ones for $679 is that the same engine? For $299 and free shipping i'd probably have bought 2-3 of them.
  2. Caterpillar Cub Cadet 6284 3 cylinder diesel starting issues

    Cub Cadet
For a manual glow plug you just need a momentary push button and a continuous duty rely. Probably should at least 12 ga wire for the glow plugs from the relay. Use the same for the starter only you don't need a relay, just find the key start wire on the starter solenoid and run it to the...

I just Googled that engine and wasn't able to find any for sale, are they still available? Pretty cool project.

I was just thinking the same thing, like a piece of tubing ran across from side to side between the 2 mounting bolts. Would help to keep it from spreading apart when there is weight on the front.

  6. JD 4230 Injection Pump

    BIG John Deeres
Is there a front cover you can pull off to look in and see if there has been diesel running down from the IP?
  7. Can I weld this cylinder?

    John Deere Forum
What I would do is drill the hole out a little and then put a bushing in the size of your pin and then tack the bushing so it doesn't move.
  8. JD 4230 Injection Pump

    BIG John Deeres
How did you come to the conclusion it was the IP's front seal? I'm not familiar with what Lift Pump those engines used but if it's a diaphram type they will leak fuel into the crankcase when they go bad.
  9. Cranks but no start how to diagnose distributor/ coil.

    Ford N's 9N/2N/8N
If you have a timing light you could put it on each of the plug wires to check to see if each are getting a spark by turning the engine over. My guess if no spark the points could just need cleaned and regapped.

Oil doesn't really break down it just gets dirty, I did a oil test on my Cummins 12v engine and it had 12,000 miles on the oil. Blackstone said the oil was good for more miles. I just change the oil filter every 5,000 miles on them. On smaller engines you could change the oil filters every 100...

    Welding, Metalwork, and Fabricating
I have a Hobart 190 Amp it's my first Mig Welder and I really like it. Just use the Flux Core wire and welds anything that I need it to. I did find out that there is definitely a difference in wire.
  13. How far in do you place oil seal

    John Deere Forum
I try to put them in so the lip isn't riding where the old one was.
  14. Help - where can I find 1" NPT locking nuts

    Gravely
Why not make one from a 1" coupler, just cut about 1/4" from the end of it.
  15. Pump and cylinder confirmation request?

    Hydraulics
I've made 2 different dump trailers and they both were single acting, the weight of the trailer will push the cyl down. So I guess it would be your call if you want it double acting.
  16. Pump and cylinder confirmation request?

    Hydraulics
Most dump trailers only use a single acting cyl, so the one gray fitting is your pressure and would go at the bottom of the hyd cyl. The black hose can go to the top of the hyd cyl and will act as a breather for the cyl and also catch any oil that would bypass any oil that would pas by the hyd...
  17. Highest mileage vehicle you've owned?

    Car Talk
I have a 92 Cummins 12v engine with over 400,000 miles on it, never been rebuilt. It's been in a 96 F350 for over 4.5 years now because the Dodge fell apart.
  18. Garage Tricks for Pressing Bearings?

    John Deere Forum
I've replaced hundreds of bearings and seals in equipment and just froze them and put a light coat of oil in the housing. Used a block of wood or socket and hammer to install them, just make sure it's started straight.
  19. 4020 Diesel Temp Guage

    BIG John Deeres
Was it a electric or mechanical gauge? Is it cold where your at, most diesels take a while to get warm. Maybe your thermostat is bad and stuck open.
  20. tow buss

    Trucks
