I was an electrician for the better part of my life and I would never use the push in type wire connector. I will follow up here with pictures of what I find. We had no storm or lightening this week...

A few times each year I put oil on the idler bearings. It will soak in and it will make them last so much longer....

Yep....squirt gas into the carb/intake... The starter spray can blow one up....
One squirt will get you started and many will keep it going until it gets gas
up from the tank...

Could you be missing a diode in your line somewhere?
Alternators put out AD and you need DC to charge your battery.
The diode changes the AC to DC.

This new world is lazy. In my time engines never had electric start.
I still have many machines with recoil only. Even my 16 hp Roper
only has a recoil. It makes a better engine mechanic out of...

If its a solid carbon rod you could grind it into powder and wrap metal in foil with the powder for hardening steel tools or bits.
