Re: JD 332 Radiator Recored

Based on the age alone, I'm guessing that a recore is the right way to go. I will tell you that $375 is probably a good price for a recore. I had my 430 radiator recored (was old and had several...

Re: What Would You Do? Keep JD 49 Snowblower OR Sell it and Fix JD 1032 Snowblower

I had a HF 6.5hp on my 20 inch snowblower - it did OK, but I often had to go slower than I'd like. Last year I upgraded to the HF 8hp....what a difference!

It looks like that B&S is probably...

Re: My 50 year old John Deere 112 sat for a decade...

I had a motorcycle gas tank that was scaled with rust. Knocked off the scale with nuts and bolts - as mentioned above. Then filled the tank with apple cider vinegar for a day - Nice bare metal. ...

Re: JD 430 PCV Smoke

UPDATE...

SO I bought a HF diesel compression gauge and checked all three cylinders..

420 - 410 - 420 psi ....the best google searches I find indicate that spec is 355psi. This was done on a...

Re: fuel trouble JD 345

If you let it sit, will it also run fine for 10 minutes to an hour...or is it the carb cleaner up the main jet that gets it to run?

If the carb clean is what's doing the trick, it really sounds...

Re: Steering free play lock nut on 318?

I struggled with the same issue on my 430. I finally bought 2 piece shaft collar from McMaster Carr, ground it down to fit snugly between the bolt head and locking nut, and clamped it in place.

Re: Please need help diagnose problem JD X320

I had been using Stabil storage - still had some spring startup issues. My friend has now convinced me to use an ethanol enzyme treatment (I'll see how it does in the spring). I recently noticed...

Re: 322 Overheating/Oil Pressure Issue

I retrofitted a temperature gauge onto my 430 diesel. It was a bit of pain to do, but well worth it.

Re: 420 Front PTO engagement issues

I hate to say it, but it sounds like you need a new clutch coil - and likely just an entire new clutch assembly.

I suspect your coil is going bad. This is causing two things to happen:

1. It...

Re: Please help!!!....JD430

I'm not a diesel expert (I do have a 430).

I believe that white smoke is typically indicative of unburnt fuel - too low of compression to burn the fuel....or too much fuel. So my best guess is...

Re: gt235 repower

I think the oil pressure switch just turns on a warning light. I think if you leave the wire disconnected (capped or taped), the light will remain off - no harm done.

I think all of the...

Re: Hearing Protection

My Dad sometimes wore ear muffs when shooting, but not much else. He didn't wear safety glasses either because "he knew where to look". I will say that I was the same way as I left home.

Thank...

Re: JD 332 loses power after 10 minutes

Battery charge is largely irrelevant for a diesel - it's only purpose is to preheat the glowplugs and turn the starter for starting, and then run the fuel supply pump and hold open the fuel shutoff...

Re: JD 430 PCV Smoke

I haven't checked compression. I don't have a compression gauge for a diesel and I'm thinking I need to remove injectors to hook one up? Other than curiosity, knowing that I have low compression...

Re: JD or Husqvarna

I upgraded from my JD317 to a JD318. Upon doing so, my son asked "so you replaced your 40 year old tractor with a 30 year old tractor?". Yes - it's what many of us here do. We enjoy the machines...

Re: JD 430 PCV Smoke

The white hangs around, so it should be smoke, not steam. Not gaining oil level or smelling any fuel in it.

So if it's "blow by", I'm just surprised that the exhaust is so clear and the power...

Re: JD 430 PCV Smoke

The oil was not white or milky at all - very clear - probably 20 hours since an oil change - still looks fresh. The air bubbles I saw did go away rather quickly and it was immediately after running....

Re: JD 430 PCV Smoke

Hmmm... I checked the oil right after I shut it down. There were some tiny bubbles on the stick when I first pulled it out. I was thinking air bubbles - maybe not?

JD 430 PCV Smoke

The 430 is starting to puff some white smoke out the breather on top of the valve cover. If I hold my finger over the breather, there is a good bit of pressure coming out. I think it is using more...

Re: Best tire repair yet!

You got my attention. I travel 4 hours to mow grass - never any time to replace a front tire with a dry rot crack in it (takes 2-3 weeks to go down). That might buy me some time.

Re: JD 318 PTO will not engage - bad connections

Thank you RussKish!

Yep - it was the connector for the TDM. I could wiggle it to get the PTO to click in. I seems reliable now with cleaned up connections.

BTW - for 318 owners, the TDM...

Re: JD430 Temperature Gauge?

The 430 has a large front grill with mesh - just not well sealed. I'll need to do something because my mom is 79 and can't get that front grill off and back on. Need to look at making that easily...

Re: JD 318 mystery hydraulic leak, steering box?

Before you go too far, the deck hydraulic lift cylinder is in that same general area. I'd exercise that a bit to make sure thats not your leak. If you are so lucky, I think it is also easier to...

Re: JD 318 PTO will not engage - bad connections

RussKish - that's the feedback I'm looking for. When you say both Molex connectors and grounds - where? All in the space between the console and the battery?

Re: Engine.

I repowered my 318 with a Honda. I don't regret a thing as I feel that I have an engine that has good power, should run forever, and has replacement parts. If I had kept the Onan on it, I think I...
