Hey Folks,

Is there a manual available with all the accessories for the tool bar and what one might use them all for and how to set them up? I've got one, but it's hard for me to tell what it was...

Re: Kohler K301 Spec Number for a '79 566?

Well, let's hope there weren't too many differences in whatever parts I need to get the thing running again over the 5665 run.

I spent a long time on hold for that information. I would hate to...

Re: Kohler K301 Spec Number for a '79 566?

I called Kohler and they said to call Gravely.

I called Gravely and they were able to look it up based on the serial number. If it helps anyone else out, the spec number for my engine (400xxx...

Re: Kohler K301 Spec Number for a '79 566?

Huh. OK... I have that wrong, then.

I just looked up the serial number from the instrument panel again (00 400069) and it points to 1979. So, 12hp motor, swiftmatic transmission, and electric...

Kohler K301 Spec Number for a '79 566?

Hey Folks,

I have -according to the serial number on the instrument panel- a 1979 566. I say that with a little uncertainty because I bought this third hand as part of a lot of gravely stuff that...

Re: What did you do to/with your Gravely today... restart 2.0

Got the 500 series started right up after 4 months of winter rest, put on the sickle mower and proceeded to cut down hundreds of 1-4 year old saplings of an invasive species of tree from an acre of...

Re: Gravely Mow-Ins, Shows, Swap Meets, Gatherings, Etc.

My wife and I are coming to the Mow-In! But we're only just getting our registration in the mail. I'm so sorry for the delay. We're not bringing anything to show or sell, but we do want to attend the...

Re: Smoking sicklebar mower?

Initial report: I screwed up!

I over-tightened the assembly in the schnorkus and put way too much pressure on the Timken roller bearings inside of there. So one of those is totally wrecked. I...

Re: Smoking sicklebar mower?

I did take the head apart and clean everything out. I ordered a new gasket and installed it when I closed it back up again. I may have put the newer spindle in the older head or ortherwise done...

Re: Smoking sicklebar mower?

Thanks for the confirmation, fellas. I will take the attachment off this weekend and see if theres an obvious bearing or bushing issue.

On the 5665 I'm running in Low/Low and just reving up the...

Re: Smoking sicklebar mower?

That's a trickier question than you might think. Last summer, I bought a lot of gravely stuff (2 tractors, 7 attachments, 3 sulkies, and a crate of odds and ends) off a young guy who said he liked...

Smoking sicklebar mower?

Got my 5665 up and running for the season this weekend! The first task I set it to was some sicklebar mowing. After a few hundred feet of working just fine, I started seeing smoke rising up from the...

Re: cramped kholer cowling

No evidence of mice this time, but I did check. The fins from the fan all the way up to the head were packed with hay clippings and milkweed fluff. The last thing I was doing before putting it away...

Re: cramped kholer cowling

Assuming you mean the perferated disc that screws into the flywheel, then yes. It's in place. So is that strange bar that protects it. According to the manual, I'm not missing any pieces (of cowling).

cramped kholer cowling

I was going over my 5000 series gravely yesterday with the 12hp Kohler motor on it, getting ready for the season. I removed all the engine cowling and found so much mowing debris that I'm surpised...

Re: Replacement Tires

I just got Carlisle 16 X 6.5-8 ag tires from Summit to replace the rotted 18 x 6.5-8 turf tires on my walk-behind 566 (Brand-name Ag tires are not available in that diameter). I had to look up a...

Foundry marks

I recently bought a lot of Gravely stuff (2 tractors, 7 implements, 3 sulkies, plus some misc. stuff). This is my first dive into Gravely (can't dive into the shallow end!). Just from reading the...

Re: You can't sharpen paint.

I didn't take any "before" pics, but here's a couple of "after"s: You can still see some blue paint on one of the knives.

You can't sharpen paint.

New member, new gravely owner, new tractor user, new to property maintenance. I am not, however, new to kludges. Times where someone decided to "use a bigger hammer" to solve a mechanical problem.
