Exclamation New Site Look and Feedback Thread

Hello Everyone,

We're proud to announce that the new site look and feel has been completed for MyTractorForums! Our designers and software engineers have been hard at work on this for several months. It's designed to modernize the site, make it easier to use, and to make it more attractive to new members and guests that visit .

The forum software we use, vBulletin, by default is not designed to be friendly to the eyes or to look modern. We went down to the nuts and bolts of the forum software and templates, and have done a ground up approach. There are several things you will notice now that the new design is live.

1) The site should be significantly faster.

We have applied every modern technique to speed up page load and tested with all modern browsers. We want the forum to be extremely fast and easy to use.

2) The site will work much better in mobile and tablet views

We've started applying responsive design, and have designed and tested against android and iPhone devices, Android tablets, and iPads. If you are sitting at your desk or on your couch, or just on your phone, the site will work much better than it did before, and load fast. We are still working on improving the experience even further in the months to come, but we wanted to launch this as quickly as we could.

3) The homepage is bright, crisp and clean.

We wanted the first page users saw to look beautiful, so that when a new guest arrives and is debating whether to join MyTractorForums, they see a beautiful doorway, and they walk right in.

As a forum member you can choose to use the new design (which is on by default) or you can go back to the old design. We ask that you give it a chance and see if you like it. Like anything new, it will be unfamiliar at first, but we suspect that the speed difference will make you want to use this new one. If you do decide to switch back, the link is at the bottom left of each forum page, you pull down and select the theme called "MyTractorForums Classic".

4) Garages will be featured on the site

You can show off your Tractor, You can post pictures in your garage and share it with others. Make sure you post up some images to share with the community at the link below.
https://www.mytractorforum.com/garage.php?do=editgarage

5) Users will be able to register with Facebook

6) The side bar can be hidden in your user options.

Click on my profile / user cp at the top right.

- click on edit your details on the left.
- Look for Show Sidebar on Forum Pages under Additional Information.
- Click disable and save.

7) Another new great feature is the @Mention user plugin. You can tag members by simply using the @ symbol.

8) Drag and Drop image uploader

We hope you enjoy it, and if you have any questions on the design, please let us know, feedback is appreciated.

If there are any issues you see. Post them up here and we will get them worked out.

Thanks,
-Your MyTractorForums Team.

Re: New Site Look and Feedback Thread

I will update this post with changes and reported issues:

We still have some tweaks to work on the rest of the week so give us a week or so to sort them out.

Punch List:
1. Tweak background to a little less white, older crowd having issues with brightness
2. Tweak reply button color, Too light yellowish washed out
3. Users and myself where being logged out last night after checking the remember me box
4. Slower posting and loading speeds seems to chug for me on PC Chrome
5. Sidebar toggle (Resolved)

NOTE:
1. There will be articles or member of the month on the homepage here: Tractor Forum
2. There will be some custom subforum icons to the left of each section here: Tractor Forum : MyTractorForum.Com Tractor Forums

Feel free to ask me any questions.

Re: New Site Look and Feedback Thread

Hi,
Some initial feeback for you:

I found all the color/font/border/hyperlink options for the new site design but they do not appear to apply consistently. It seems like there is a lot of customization available but not full so you can only kind of make things how you want. See attached photos.

Hyperlinks remain a bland green color even when selected to be something else. I have also noticed that some, but not all, posts have a bright green Bold font. see attached.

Having a default font & color option for the Entire site would be nice rather than having to select you choice again and again for each category.

The new style is "crisp" if you prefer the softer color pallet. I am going to lay good money on the bet that the lack of Contrast in this color pallet will annoy older users with poorer eyesight. See attached image where I highlight this paragraph.

Bound to be bugs with a new roll out. Some Video walk throughs highlighting the new features wouldn't hurt either. Looking forward to see how the roll out progresses.

Re: New Site Look and Feedback Thread

I wish I could have the old look back.
I was shocked at the new look...
I had the old lay out from way back when...
That what I want back... I'm to old for change...
Sorry... But I don't like it...
Some parts are very very had to see...

You can revert to the classic view, see first post.

@Dragon - Thanks for the great feedback.

We will check the font and styling cues to make them a little cleared and uniform.

Re: New Site Look and Feedback Thread

Is there any way to get rid of the column on the far right titled "Recent Discussions" (and the seemingly redundant search above it)? I have my own way of browsing the site and finding the posts I am interested in, and I have no need for that column taking up 25% of my screen.

You know you might be a Nouveau Redneck if...
1. You use the cup holder on your tractor to hold your cosmopolitan instead of a beer
2. Your "Santa on a tractor" Christmas yard decoration is actually a high tech digital hologram.
3. Your deer camp cuisine is better than most 3 star restaurants.

As soon as I logged out it reverted to the new, and can't get back to the classic ???

Re: New Site Look and Feedback Thread

Don't misunderstand, I think the brighter colored header is a great addition, and should get some new and younger members. The more variety of tractors the better.

BUT like the password problem I see only some got advanced notice, the rest of us SURPRISE !

Re: New Site Look and Feedback Thread

I have one more item for you. The 'Go to first unread post' hover popup isn't working.

When you hover over the 'chevron' to the left of the post title, the above is what should come up. Instead you get the first, what, 50 characters of the post - the same popup you get when hovering over the post name.

Fortunately I'm on a couple other discussion boards where this feature works.
I was initially really confused by its apparent lack, and others may be also.

You guys have done real well for the first try - if this little stuff is all there is, you've done excellent...!!

To bright. Maybe it's just me but it worked fine before, least ways I've never had a problem. I'm one for leaving well enough alone but I'll give it a try but going in with a negative feeling

Just noticed, the 'post quick reply ' and 'go advanced' button on the bottom are almost washed out, hard to spot.......Mike
