I have 7.5 acres. The area surrounded by trees is 4 acres. 2 acres is grape vineyard. I have been mowing with a 54" Cub Cadet garden tractor. Takes about 1.5hr-2hr due to running up, down and around the grape rows. The land is basically flat but not smooth. The land to the right is our future winery. For now it is a hay field and I only mow the outer 6-8'. I am thinking a ZTR would be helpful getting around the grape rows better than the tractor??? At 54", I have to make 2 passes per row and most of the time that works, but sometimes when the grass grows closer to the vines, 54" each way can leave a uncut strip down the middle of the row. So, moving up to a 60" would be ideal.
Looking at buying new to get a warranty. I am looking at the Gravely ZT HD 60. There is a local dealer that would cover any warranty issues. I don't see a ZTR being something I would buy at Lowes, but maybe I'm wrong? I don't have any issue maintaining a mower and doing repairs, but from what I've seen, used models aren't much cheaper, so may as well buy new. Local price is $5300. Are prices on these negotiable? Just wondering if I should haggle for a deal on last years inventory?
Is there another brand that would be in the same price range that is considered better than the model I'm looking at? I believe Cub Cadet, John Deere and Big Dog are available locally. Scag and Kubota are also available, but I imagine they are a bit more than I need and more $$$.
Thanks for any advise. Maybe, I should just stick with what I have. It gets the job done. I won't be getting rid of it because we use it for other things. Main things am looking for is faster cut time, better cut and more comfortable ride.
