kawasaki mule head scratcher

I have a 3010 mule that has always been cold-natured, but once running for a bit was fine. The other day I washed it (needed it badly!) and it immediately began running poorly, with almost no power. It idles pretty good, but pressing the accelerator produces barely any power increase. To me it acts as though it is air starved. So, we replaced the plugs, inspected the air filter, which looks clean, tested by running with the air filter removed; no change. We examined the air intake pipe which is integrated into the roll bar; no blockage. We examined the exhaust; no blockage. Changed out the gas. Cleaned out the rat's nest that had been built inside the clutch cover, ran some carb cleaner into all the places we could get to in the carb. We have about 500 hours on the machine, I think, so no reason for it to be sick.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.
