Found 5W50 Synthetic On Sale

Just started looking at this stuff for a trans drain and fill. Couple of auto parts store sites show it for just over $9/qt.

Amazon has it for $48.99 for a 6 pack/case less a $10 coupon. Makes it $38.99 ( $6.50 qt ) with free shipping.

Castrol 06250 EDGE 5W-50 SPT Synthetic Motor Oil - 1 Quart Bottle, (Pack of 6)

Maybe some of you can do better locally, not sure.

Re: Found 5W50 Synthetic On Sale

Seems like it should be an easy decision, right? I need two quarts. Not sure I need the other four any time soon.

Store prices are closer to $10/quart, so buying the two I need will cost more than the price of three in this deal.

What else can I use it for? Not car engines, right? Can it be mixed with 5W30 Synthetic?

What about the other Hydro? The HydroGear that wants 20W50?

Not sure on other uses. Shelf it for future trans services!

Re: Found 5W50 Synthetic On Sale

My tractor, an X304, took more than 2 qts to fill it. I remember having to return to the store to pick up another qt. to fill it. Mine took about 2 1/4 qts. It will take about 5 qts to do it twice.

Re: Found 5W50 Synthetic On Sale

Found a better deal.

Advance Auto Parts is running one of their oil change specials that included it. 5 quarts plus a Fram filter for $32.99 complete. Oil works out to about $5.50/quart and the filter that's regularly over $10 worked out to under $6

Oil is "Castrol EDGE 5W-50 Full Synthetic Motor Oil"

Quote:
5 Quarts of Castrol EDGE Full Synthetic Motor Oil AND a FRAM Ultra Oil Filter
$32.99
Valid October 01, 2015 October 28, 2015

Picked up a filter for one of the cars to do an oil change in the Spring since I already have the oil on hand for that.

I can't find the offer on the website directly, but it's in the flyer that can be viewed from there.
