Re: Piranha Tooth Bar for Front End Loader

Woohoo - just shipped for Saturday delivery! Did I read right that a 3/4" hole is required?

I just installed a Piranha Tooth Bar on my Kubota B7800 and used
a step drill bit from Harbor Freight to drill the two 3/4" holes.

Re: Piranha Tooth Bar for Front End Loader

Glad you are finally getting yours, Rob. You have to cut a hole on each side of the loader using a step drill bit, but as I mentioned you need to drill a starter hole first. It comes with complete instructions and a hole template.

I ordered the step drill bit BXpanded was offering. It was more than double the price of the HF bit, but I didn't have faith that the HF one would cut through 1/8" of solid steel. I guess it does.

Re: Piranha Tooth Bar for Front End Loader

I was of "half-like" mind Al. I drilled a 5/16 pilot hole then used the HF step drill just to see how it would do. If it didn't, I had the bits to step up in progression. But that little cheapy did just fine.

Re: Piranha Tooth Bar for Front End Loader

Mike, my old Craftsman drill bits are mostly dull after years of use. I'm jus too cheap to buy a new set. When I need a sharper bit, I buy just that one. I think they call it penny wise and pound foolish.

Re: Piranha Tooth Bar for Front End Loader

In your second picture, is that as far back as you could set it? What's stopping it? I hope you aren't going to mount it as in the last picture.

Very good point he brought up. You want it back properly before drilling holes. It's (As ApinNY said) too far forward.

My BX25 has the tapered bucket edge which allowed a snug fit.

Re: Piranha Tooth Bar for Front End Loader

Don't worry, I'll have the bucket lip pawls socked up tight onto the bucket lip. I just tossed the bar on there for the photos. Need to grind some of the lower outer edge (photo 1) for a better fit at the corners which will allow for maximum engagement. The hex head cap screws will be placed at the rear of the slot mount to account for wear over time.

I would have had the bar installed by now but spend most of my free time this weekend finishing the loader frame. Every joint (of the 16) was worn .030"-.110" over. I drilled/ground everything in this range to 1.125", welded in 1"ID steel tubing and installed new pins (1" HHCS and nyloc nuts). It was a lot of work but the slop is gone now! Sorry, no pics yet!

Bummer about the water pump. How did you like the toothbar?
