What Did You do on Your Ford Today?

I follow and participate on a similar thread for Deere's on that forum , thought it would be neat to do one for the Ford aficionados. Could be a way to 'touch base' and create camaraderie, since many threads I see are "helps threads" and when issue is solved it usually ends. This one would be "open-ended" , as long as we're still kickin' I believe we'll be doing SOMETHING on or with our tractors! So, whaddya do ...? .....

Played around with the steering box today, and got some of the play out of it. A real sweetheart of a thing to get at as you will discover. You need a sense of humor as they started with a steering box and built a tractor around it. Removed the mower lift mechanism as I don't use the tractor to cut grass and it only rattled under there. Thinking about changing the front axel for a spare I have as loaders are hard on front ends. Wishing the ground was drier so I could be driving it.

Hey Larry, that's my next "adventure" - for the same reason ('play'). Replacing the lock pin on steering arm(see post above) did help some, previous owner had a bolt(of smaller diameter) in alignment hole which created excessive movement- 'play'- but, still have a little.

Be nice to get power steering in these, especially if you have a FEL.

Hopin' your night's pleasant....

Re: What Did You do on Your Ford Today?

20 miles from canada just below the st law river.yes i did a little home remedy. i don,t know if i could find those springs. so i did what every good farmer would do.on that steering this thing steers more one way than the other. and it looks like half a bushing or some thing on the bottom of that steering shaft.

Hi Grey, heard this complaint before. Try centering the steering wheel, exactly one and a half turns from either end then see where the wheels point. Might just be draglink bent or out of adjustment.

Re: What Did You do on Your Ford Today?

Took the tiller off of the Ford 100 and put the hitch back on to move a few trailers and pulled the deck out of storage to get cleaned up and ready to mow with in a few weeks. Previous owner said the PTO didn't work but after a tear down, cleaning and everything greased up it works perfectly. I'm getting anxious to mow with the 42" aluminum deck I have heard it gives a good cut, but with 2ft of snow on most of the lawn so I got some time to wait

1987 John Deere 165 w/ 38" deck, 44" berco blade
1974 Case 446 w/deck, tiller, snow caster, moldboard
1968 Ford 100 42" deck, 32" tiller
MTD 960 W/loader
Massey Ferguson 7-awaiting repowered
Roper GT18
Ford LT-75-awaiting repower
Ford RMT 66
15hp MTD w/42" deck, 40" 2 stage blower
Agrifab 42" sweeper, 35" spike aerator, moldboard plow, potato hiller, homemade sprayer and 2 Cultivators

Re: What Did You do on Your Ford Today?

hey larry thanks for that info. i pulled the steering shaft loose today.centered a lug nut in the washed out hole where steer shaft sits and torch welded it in place. took all the slop out of the steering. now i see ty rod ends are all loose so that will be the next project.than a new seat and a few other miner things .i wish some previous owner would of heard of a grease gun sure would of saved a lot of wear and tear on the parts, any body ever tighten up the main bolt in the front end on these 120 fords, had to file the threads out of the lug nut to make it fit on the end of the shaft.oyea ground the corners off the nut to make it round.fit pretty tight when done.

Re: What Did You do on Your Ford Today?

Well with all the steering 'talk', took a look at my steering shaft , clocked the wheel, pretty true - greased it (fitting) and will give it a drive tomorrow(haven't since replacing lock pin on steering arm - post above).
