Hole in size of tractor jd1050

Cleaning up the new 1050 and found what looks to be an inspection hole on left(drivers size) side with a black gasket in place and no cover. Right where the clutch/ trans is I think. This is supposed to be covered up right? Any pics of yours so I can fashion a new one?

Re: Hole in size of tractor jd1050

No clue what you are describing here. Post a pix from what you are seeing on the 1050.

It's the 3T90T-J engine right? Or is it without the T as in 3T90-J? The T = Turbo. Maybe that hole was where the turbo once was. If so, th the tractor becomes a JD-950 instead.

Sorry for delay here is a pic. It's a 1050 from late 1981 Far right side of picture on what looks like clutch housing. Missing a plate cover I guess, maybe this is for adjusting clutch linkage? Thanks. Dropping off mvfd disassembled for rebuilding today, hope they do it well. Lots of new bearings and packing etc
