What GT Should I Buy?

To mow 3+ acres around the farm, possible blower / snow blade, reliable, easy to get parts, budget of $4,000 Canadian.
What it will be replacing, the k664 just wasn’t holding up!

Re: What GT Should I Buy?

Get a mower (mid or trailing) for the CK30 to handle the larger, more open areas. Then get a sub $2K riding mower for the areas closer to the house and wherever more detail work is called for.

I thought about doing that, but wasn’t sure if the ck30 would handle the hill with its high Center of gravity. Max angle of hills is 10 to 15*, and when on said hills using the tractor it does get sort of sketchy...

Re: What GT Should I Buy?

Hills beyond a safe grade are done straight up and down. Never across the hill (sidehilling). I keep the FEL on and carry it as low as possible, just enough not to touch ground. That helps to balance the weight and keep the COG lower. But I have to be careful to know where the edge is. I've dinged a couple of things already.

Re: What GT Should I Buy?

True, that is how I use the ck30 now, but with the conquest I found with the wheel spaced out it was quite comfortable on the hills sideways.

Re: What GT Should I Buy?

My ditch along the rod is at least 20 degrees and maybe more at its steepest. I did not mow it until I got the Conquest because it was just too steep. the Conquest would slip and slide down the hill as I was driving, it could not hold its course.

I then filled the rear tires with Rimguard and that helped a lot, but it was still quite nerve wracking.

When I purchased the Prestige, the tires held a bit more Rimguard and by then I had purchased cast iron wheel weights. Each rear wheel now sports an additional 128 pounds (roughly) of weight that is low and wide. The only issue I have now is my big butt's desire to slide out of the seat!

I own a 2017 Simplicity Prestige 27/52 EFI, JB Jr, Johnny Plow Jr.
From 2015 to 2017 I owned a used 2013 Simplicity Conquest 27/50.
From 1996 until 2015 I owned a White LT-16 Vanguard V-twin and 2 stage blower.
In 1991 I purchased a used 1984 Gilson 16 HP opposed twin. It was a horse!

I will definitely agree with you on the simplicity’s ability to operate on hills, no doubt about it. The conquest now has a set of Carlisle super lugs, s well as wheel weights and 4wd. My issue is that the transmission is just not holding up to the slopes, lugging the 900lb tractor + deck without operator. Have already rebuild the transmission once, run 10w50 oil, and don’t tow anything.
I might pick up a prestige like we used to have, with the k72, and put the super lugs and wheel weights on it. Thanks for the help

Re: What GT Should I Buy?

What do you guys think of this? $600 Canadian, 20hp Vanguard, 1750 hours, 50” deck with hydraulic lift. Everything works as it should, the owner is who I sold the prestige too. Do you guys happen to have any idea what transmission these use? It is a hydro. Here’s a picture:

Re: What GT Should I Buy?

I am NOT an expert on this, but Agco Allis was built by Simplicity. that looks to me a lot like a 1999-2001 Landlord 20 DLX. That would be the earlier model of the Prestige. Should have a K71, but I am not sure. Should also have hydraulic lift.

Okay,
Do you think it would be worth buying at that price?

A bit off topic here, but when sidehilling, removal of the FEL will be safer. A full bucket may lower the C of G, but it will also make the machine more likely to teeter on the front axle center pivot point, which will make the machine less stable. The loader probably won’t save you at that point.

If going up/down the hill, use 4wd (especially going downhill!) and the loader may be beneficial as ballast going uphill, and will stop the tractor from tipping forward when going downhill, if carried low enough.
