I had to ditch using my mac.com/icloud.com email address for this site because of very similar issues. Emails would just not show up. So yes, it could very likely be on Apple Inc... I went and created a gmail account, and no problems since then. Again, probably 3 years ago now. I know it seems like an extreme solution, but your alternative is probably to try to contact Apple and explain the situation to them and see if they can fix it on their end. I didn't have the intestinal fortitude for that.

Re: No "instant notifications"?

Can someone provide me with the EXACT email domain that I should be receiving notifications from and I will contact Apple to see if they are blocking that domain. I fail to see why Apple would do that, but I'll ask.

I would think if everyone with a Mac.com email address were not receiving email notifications from this site, that someone from this site would have contacted Apple by now to ask them why the site has been flagged as spam by Apple's email servers.

Niall
Those would be these two listed in Niallís post above...

I canít speak for everyone with an iCloud or .mac account, I can only speak for myself; honestly, it took me less time to set up a Gmail account and change my MTF account over to use it than I would have spent on hold and going through voicemail heck to try to explain this to front-line tech support at Apple.

Edit - since I had a few extra minutes tonight, Iím just sitting on hold with Apple Support waiting for the support lady to go and discuss this issue with her manager...

Aaaaaand her answer was if Iím receiving other emails on my Apple address the problem isnít with Apple because my account is working and they donít blacklist other servers. Which does not answer my question about why my gmail account receives those subscription notifications while my .mac account didnít.

So, now Iím on hold to talk to her senior advisor... although who Iíd really like to have talk to the senior advisor is Niall...

Hovering around the half an hour mark for wait time

Well, a nice chat was had with Israel the senior advisor, but once again, he said that it was not likely a problem on Appleís end. I did ask Israel how I would go about adding the two vsobr.com domains to my Safe Sender list for my .mac account and he did not believe there were any settings for that in Mac Mail on the phone or the desktop app (I knew that one already, but it was worth a shot.). He thought I might be able to find something in my settings in iCloud but wasnít sure. I declined to have him escalate this to his engineers... he did agree that in a perfect world his engineers would call Verticalscopes engineers and hash out this issue. Unfortunately, in 25 years of working as a user support person, Iíve only ever had ONE vendor whose engineers contacted the engineers at another company to try to resolve an end userís issue... and it wasnít Apple or Verticalscopes. (Technically, it was a hardware company that was contracted to produce hardware units for a software vendor we use, so kinda the same company in a way...).

Israelís one suggestion that I might try was to try my .icloud.com address instead of my .mac.com or my .me.com address... Donít remember if I tried that three years ago.

If you add any email address to your Contacts, the local app will always allow the messages from that address through to the Inbox. But this still doesn't explain the issue with all notification emails from this site not being delivered to mac.com addresses.

And you added those addresses, correct? And it still didnít work? But you are receiving other emails to that address, correct? At which point, Apple says your email account is functioning fine, it must be a VS/forum problem. But since youíve already tried Niallís suggestion the only troubleshooting step left to you as an end user is to try a different email account... thatís where I wound up 3 years ago.

The only other way this could be resolved (or at least tested so that one company or the other had to admit there is a problem with their system)?is if Apple and VerticalScopes had their engineers both work directly with you to coordinate an email sending test. Someone would need to post something on one of your subscribed threads, the VS engineers would need to monitor their outgoing email logs to ensure that the notification email was sent, and the Apple engineers would need to monitor their incoming email logs to ensure it was received. And this would probably need to be done in real time, no system engineer or admin I know is going to agree to sort through mountains of log files to try to find a log entry for an event that they havenít been given an fairly exact time for.

When a domain is blacklisted for spam, messages from that domain never get to your MB, so there is nothing you can do. Blacklisting services are separate entities and even the ISPs, mail providers, etc. can't do anything about 'missing messages' since they never see them. Spam messages are dumped out midstream or sometimes even blocked from being sent at all.

Multiple, repetitive messages sent often from the same domains are considered spam, regardless of whether the intended recipient really wants them or not.

Why do only some people not get them? Different companies subscribe to different blacklist services. VS is primarily an ad based company, posting ads for the purpose of generating revenue. I'm surprised they're not blacklisted more widely.

I can't add an email address that I don't know. Since I don't think I've ever received an email from this site (I just checked), I don't know what address to add to my Contacts so that my computer doesn't send those emails to the Junk folder.

Can you go into your Contacts and create two new contacts (hit the "+" button to make a new contact)?

The first one, call it VerticalScopes1, and make the email address "[email protected]"

then click Done to save it

Name:	address1.png
Views:	11
Size:	53.1 KB
ID:	2383595

Then hit the "+" sign again to make another one, call it VerticalScopes 2, and make the email address "[email protected]"

and hit "Done" to save it.

Lets see if that's roughly equivalent to "adding to the safe senders list" that Niall's referring to, since that exact option isn't available in Apple Mail. I'm not confident that it will work, as what you're talking about is doing this:

https://itstillworks.com/add-senders...l-8407898.html

Which yes, assumes that you've gotten emails from that address (you have not).

(I'm also not confident that will work as I did that three years ago and it didn't help... I've still got both of those email addresses in my Contacts from then).

As I mentioned earlier, Apple support did not have an answer as to why some emails would be received by you and some would not. As far as they were concerned, if you received any emails in your account, it was working properly. Which brings us back to the two possibilities... First, that the instant notification emails are not being sent out in the first place by VerticalScopes' forum software, or second, that somewhere in Apple's email service those emails are being blocked (which Apple Support denies would happen). Niall, what can you do to check with the techs in the back room about whether the notifications are being sent to PDBreske's associated email address?

Or as I tried to explain above, it's blocked before it ever gets to them. They can't block or unblock what they never see. As big as they or any other company are, they do not run the web. There are other companies out there that play a much bigger role in what passes through servers and what doesn't. Level 3 is/was just one of them. The wiki says they were acquired by Century Link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Level_3_Communications

It seems that all of the so called Tier 1 Networks aren't even widely known: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tier_1_network

"The most widely quoted source for identifying Tier 1 networks is published by Renesys Corporation,[4] but the base information to prove the claim is publicly accessible from many locations"

Though at least some are listed here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tier_1...ier_1_networks
