Has anyone successful converted their headlights/tail lights to LED lights?
So far is looks like headlamps use a 921 replacement bulb but I haven't quite found the replacement bulbs for the tail light housings. Anyone have that info handy?
I did the headlights on mine, they were T10s, the COB type works well with the reflectors. Similar to these https://www.aliexpress.com/item/New...W5W-High-Power-COB-LED-Bulbs/32621040846.html They made a great patch of light, but didn't last very long before they started flickering, cheap Chinese &%#$, YMMV. Tails were something old school standard automotive like an 1157 or its single filament variant. Pop the lens to find out for sure.
Unfortunately the bulbs don't have the bulb number on it...just the voltage. I had an opportunity to look at them as I prepare to 2 part epoxy my light back together lol
When I got my 2410 a few weeks ago, a couple of bulbs were out in one of the rear lights. I took them to NAPA and the fellow at the desk was able to find replacements on the shelf, even though he could not reference any of the numbers on the bulbs. I was not looking for LED, although it would be nice to do that u/g, in the headlights, for better light. Power-wise, with a 40A alternator, I don't think the power-savings of LED is a factor.
I'll take pictures and keep ya posted on how well they work. I may even take some video as well. My plan is to mount the switch for the LED flood lights opposite the key switch and below the current light switch on my GC1710 console to make it look as factory as possible. I'll probably not use the inline fuse box on the harness and install to the tractor fuse box instead for ease of access and consistency. Wish me luck!
Weather continues to ruin conditions around where I live keeping it too wet to play with my Massey on some much needed outdoor work. Luckily, my new lighting came in yesterday so I can still play with the tractor anyhow this weekend. I'll try grab pictures before and after for folks to see the difference in lighting output.
You know, I never realized that my Massey has an auxiliary electrical plug on it until I did my 50 hour service this past weekend. I'm not sure what you can run off it as it's pretty small. I assume one worklight. It would be sweet if you could hook those new light up there.
The first picture was a general focus shot of the front of the tractor. It didn't really do the difference juctice. So then I used the focal select option on my phone to try and target the brighter headlight which darkened everything and really highlighted the different in lumens between the stock bulbs and the new LED bulbs. I'll take more pics later but wow... What a difference
What a difference! Are those the 912 bulbs that you reference in item 1 of your post? Please keep us posted on how much difference they make at night while using the tractor. I may just have to do this.
Yes... These are the 912/921 sealight bulbs in action. My phone was dead last night but they must be good when my wife says that those are absolutely obnoxious in their brightness vs the old ones. I'll try and grab a picture tonight.
So I installed my LED work lights and really like the way it turned out. I fabricated some light brackets using square stock and some U bolts for mounting. I painted the bracket MF red. I also ran the wire harness for the lighting alongside the tractors harness. Using a step bit I dash mounted the rocker switch. I also drilled holes and added rubber grommets for wiring to keep the install clean and inside the ROPS for protection.
Mess? What mess? All I see is the glorious light. So these are working fine then, no ill effects on the system or anything like that. I assume that's all 4 bulbs installed. That's really impressive. Yeah, I think I should do this before winter. Thanks for sharing that.
I have a light bar mounted on 100lbs round magnet bought at Harbor freight for a couple bucks and used spare connection in back of tractor (GC1720) added a switch/extra cable so I can move light in any direction on ropes and it never moves once mounted.
I like the magnet idea.
I mounted the light bar in front of the top of my ROPS. Very top not a good option- low branches would get it. A couple inches lower and it was pretty close to the same level as the top of my head. If my head cleared comfortably, so would the light.
I need to do lights on my Kubota. This time I’ll do forward AND rearward facing lights. I won’t even bother to do the headlights. The loader renders them all but useless.
Now that darkness has set in for the season, I am returning to this thread. I've only had one or two chances to use the lights on the 2410 and they are predictably yellow and not the brightest.
Has it been determined which LED bulb/type is best and where to buy it? It looks like a very bright backup LED bulb was mentioned for use in the headlights. I'm interested in getting more light out front for snow-clearing, with work lights to help with the edges.
I watched a video the other day where someone used a "NAPA 194" LED bulb in place of the stock 921/922. I went and checked with NAPA today and they had another LED bulb, which I did not buy yet, that is only a couple of $ more than the 194 but supposedly much brighter. About $13/bulb. I'm thinking about them, but ultimately, the loader or the snowblower does block much of the light from these, regardless of the bulb used.
What are others finding? Is it worth it to change out these bulbs for a machine that always has either a loader or blower on the front of it?
Light bar (or floods) on the ROPS. Need them facing forward and back. The loader nor blower will block them, unless the loader is raised about 3 feet, but then the stock location bulbs will shine through.
Beneficial side effect of light bar on ROPS pointed ever so slightly downward: it will illuminate the sides of your mower deck for night time mowing (in my case, it was ALWAYS dark in the fall about 6:00 pm in the midst of after work leaf cleanup). You can have the brightest bulbs ever made, but if they aren’t illuminating what you need to see, they don’t do you any good.
Another side benefit: if wired right, you won’t need the key on or engine running to have a VERY convenient mobile flood light (getting wood off the pile, vehicle work, late night emergency chainsaw work, gutting a deer, etc.).
I've mounted work lights (LED floodlights) on the tail light guards to avoid modifying the actual ROPS in any way. I can turn them to the front or rear as needed. So a couple of weeks ago, I was wiring them up and came to the point where I wanted to add a circuit to the fuse box. Not so fast. The open slots in the fusebox have no contact strips below them. So I got a fuse-tap at NAPA and in wiring that, did not get full voltage via the tap and the work lights would not do more than flicker. I need to do more testing to get to the bottom of the problem, but have not had the time since the day of wiring them...
Back with an update: I did the ROPS (light guard) mounts for the LED work lights. Sadly, they initially did not work, until I isolated a ground problem for them and the existing tail/turn/hazard lights. I rarely work with the tractor in the dark, so it took a while to test them. After two sessions of snow clearing in the dark I love them! They are flood lights and give me a good size well lit area while working. The top-of-rear-light-guard mounts mean I can turn them to face front or rear, should I ever want to use the backhoe at night.
I came back here b/c I am wanting to u/g the stock headlights to LED bulbs as the price has come down and the existing bulbs are dim-to-useless. I know the type is 912/921, but does anyone know if the sockets are strictly T10 or will they accept T15 which can be a lot brighter?
I mounted some LEDS on top of the ROPS. I used a pair of harborfreight tool magnets, those long skinny ones, bolted to an aluminum plate, and mounted the lights to it. I secured it with a u-bolt, to make sure it doesn't try to knock any sense in to me. I put a plug in the wiring so I can remove it in summer, so it doesn't get knocked off by a tree branch while mowing.
