New (to me) GC2300! Project Status

Hey everyone!

I've just purchased my second tractor project. I sold my first (1984 Mitsubishi/Satoh Beaver) this past weekend and this one popped up that same day. Craigslist must have sensed the cash in my pocket. This is a 1 family owned unit with 615 hours but it sure does need some work. For now it runs strong and the loader is operational, but it leaks (maybe hemorrhages is a better descriptor) fluid from the rear drive unit. More on that later.

- It could use a paint job, but that will wait till warmer weather comes back. Any feedback whether it's worth it to have it professionally sprayed versus rattle bomb enamel?

- The 3pt lift arms were ripped off in a york rake accident. I have the innards, but the case was sealed up (poorly, hence the leak) and now the 3pt is rendered useless. I plan to get this going again. Any good salvage places where I could potentially source a whole rear drive unit? My first few hours of searching haven't turned anything up except a unit that was auctioned off in 2016 at purple wave.

-The FEL is missing the joystick and I have not been able to find a 'joystick assembly' to replace it. The closest I've come is finding all the part #'s on Agco's site, but piecing the assembly together gets pricey.

-The mowing deck is missing some of the mounting hardware. I assume I can find that on Agco's site, but if someone has these pieces kicking around, I'd love to give them a home!

Onto the pictures! These are from the Craigslist ad.

You may find that replacing the entire valve assembly for the FEL is cheaper than just replacing the original joystick. If memory serves, just the 3 screwballs (pivots) were $20 each 10 years ago.

Man... What sort of York rake accident ripes the toplink out of a tractor!? That said 615hrs means that little motor is still a baby with plenty left to give. Best of luck cleaning her up and putting her back together.

Cool! I didn't know MF was still making lawn tractors!

It will take some doing BUT that cast can be fixed by the right guy and re-enforced to prevent this from happening again.

Good luck with it it looks like it will be a fun tractor when it's done.

Been driving Deeres since 1974, Dodges since 1984, and Davidsons since 2004. Love my wife and kids I'm a blessed man.
