1025 front PTO drive shaft

Hi Folks,

I recently picked up a used 47 blower to use with my 425. I bought it from a local dealer on consignment. They told me it came off of a 1025 and the customer only used it a few times. Based on the condition of the blower. I believe that. It came with the long center drive shaft from the 1025, which is different than the shaft I need for my 425. Based on the research I did on the JD parts site it looks like the P/N for this shaft is LVA22444. Can anyone confirm that I got this correct? Also, any insight on other models this will work with would be helpful.

Can you speculate on a fair asking price for the shaft? I don't see any listed on ebay or CL, so I'm having a hard time picking a market reference other than the JD price new which is a little under $600 depending on where you look.

I would like to start with a local CL ad, since I hate shipping large parts.

If the tractor-end of the shaft fits the tractors PTO (as in, the only thing wrong with the shaft is that it's too long), you can have it shortened by a driveshaft shop.

the shaft for the 4X5 tractors doesn't have the double universal at the front end. Seems crazy to me to cut that out of a perfect driveshaft.

Re: 1025 front PTO drive shaft

You don't have to cut that double-cardan joint out of the driveshaft, unless it will interfere with something on the tractor or snowblower when it's installed. It helps when the shafts at each end aren't aligned very closely. It doesn't make a difference if they are aligned well enough to use a regular u-joint, so you might as well just keep it.

It might be something to consider eventually, if say you can't find a reasonably priced for your 425 before the snow flies...

Re: 1025 front PTO drive shaft

Front PTO shafts, with carrier bearing/bracket are pretty common around here on Craig's List. I wouldn't chop up that 1025r shaft. You shouldn't have any trouble at all selling it on Craig's List and for far more than you'll spend on a 4X5 front PTO shaft.

Yes, your photos are of a 1025R front PTO shaft.

FYI, If I recall correctly, the intermediate shaft that is bolted to the blower gear box input shaft is a different also, between a 1025R and a 4X5. I had 455s and moved up to 1025Rs. At first, I was just going to adapt my existing snowblowers. However, it was more cost effective to sell my exiting snowblowers and purchase new than adapt.
