Thanks for the link, a lot of good information there. It seems like it is always a little breezy when I want to spray, being able to lower the boom should help.

In my area Farm & Fleet seem to have the best selection of spray tips on hand. slkpk

andyb, thanks for the pics of your sprayer and yesterday I got my boom put on correctly. I will be spraying some 2-4-D as soon as the rain lets up this week. slkpk

slkpk overall do you think Fimco makes a good product? My dealer just priced
us a Reddick 55 gal. 3 pt sprayer with 18' boom, hand gun and nickel roller
pump and the quote was north of $1900. I can get a 55 gal. Fimco for about
1/3 of that. I personally don't see how there could be that much difference in them.

I think they make a good product. A cheap roller pump will cost you $169 & up at TSC. You can invest hundreds of dollars on a pump. I haven't looked at a Fimco 3 point sprayer and boom. It seems to me $1900 is a lot for a sprayer when they are all about the same. Plastic tanks, 1/2 inch rubber hose, tips, spray gun & boom.

Pumps and tips is where the difference in pricing probably is. Some tips depending on what you get can run $4 & up a piece. The only other difference could be in the strength of the 3 point frame itself. slkpk

Nozzles are not all created equal, looking at the ones Fimco uses they appear to be consumer quality where alot of 3pt sprayers use Ag quality TeeJet type nozzles and tips. Mine has the TeeJet nozzles and they are not cheap. Not saying the Fimco ones are junk they are just not the same quality. I paid 1200 Cdn out the door for a 62 gallon 3pt sprayer with a Delavan 6 roller pump and 12' booms and no spray wand as I have one on my old cart type sprayer I may use. I have seen other units that cost much more like the Hardi units but they have girder style booms like the big boys and can break away in both directions (unlike mine and the Fimco's I know first hand mine only breakaway when traveling forward although they do BREAK and fall away when backing up).

BTW that is a nice looking sprayer you have, I tried to buy one up here but came up dry and so bought my Westward one from the New Holland dealer.

This has been a great little sprayer and with the 40 gal capacity it's just right for my 3 acres. Last year I upgraded the pump to the 3.8 gal per minute pump and switched to flood jet nozzles hoping top get more recirculation to keep the product in suspension. I use 28% nitrogen for fert and it's heavy and needs to be recirculated while spraying.

If anyone is looking to buy one I might suggest going with the gas version and roller pump if your looking to spray anything heavy so you can use the by pass to keep everything in suspension. The by pass on the electric pump leaves a little bit to be desired for recirculating and spraying at the same time.

Overall I'm would give it 9 out of 10 rating. For spraying regular herbicides and other liquid fert it does extremely well. slkpk
Just doing some thinking couldn't you use the pump you replaced to do the recirculating and the other for spraying or the other way around. Would save buying an extra pump!

Re: FIMCO 40 Gallon Trailer Sprayer Review

On my 55 Imp Gallon trailer sprayer I have a hypro 4101c powered by a Briggs 3 1/2 hp running at abt 1800 rpm's. It is reduced to abt 600 at the pump with pully reduction and I have the regulator set at abt 40 psi. It runs 5 dry TeeJet boom nozzles and a set of tip nozzles I use when there is no wind and to get under the tree line. I bought this from my neighbor 3 or 4 years ago and it works very well. The pump is rate at abt 7gpm at 2600 but is not required IMO and I have the C is the cast pump not the silvercast that Hypro recommends for Roundup. If you clean the pump good after spraying Roundup it will last for years (this pump is 8 years old now). I think your trailer is big enough to do this mod if you need the extra gpm and should be cheap as the 4101c is abt 89.00 at TSC and a used Briggs 3 or so HP horz shaft engine should be easy to find cheap and this setup will definately recirc your stuff. Also with the engine only turning at 1800 it runs for god knows how long on a tank of gas, It was always over half full after spraying 10 acres.

Again I really like that sprayer and the quality of it.

Re: FIMCO 40 Gallon Trailer Sprayer Review

This year I switched to the Natures Lawn products and using the sprayer about every 3 weeks. This thing hasn't missed a beat and doing a very good job. This sprayer has become one of the most important tools I've got for yard care.
The Natures Lawn products is light enough that using the recirculation valve keeps everything suspended and haven't had any clogging issues with the electric 3.8 gpm pump. I'm still using the red flood jet tips for fertilizer and weed killer. I like the larger droplet they provide compared to the yellow #2 fan tip nozzles. slkpk
