Re: gilson - montgomery ward pic thread

Used the paper clip and attached a few pictures. Three og the pictures right after I bought at an estate sale in 2009 and unloaded from my truck. It was parked in a garage for several years and came with Gravely dump cart. I paid $150 for both. The tractor was not running but looked to be well taken care of. I had a mechanic grind and reseat the valves, and install electronic igniton and it has been a great machine. Everything on it is original and the paint is in pretty good shape too.
Sorry I don't have better pictures but maybe these will help.

Re: gilson - montgomery ward pic thread

1986 Gilson YT12.5

This was my friend's grandparent's tractor from new, and he always drove it as a kid and wanted it when they got rid of it. But unfortunately his grandfather passed away, and his grandmother sold the tractor to another friend of mine. He did a bit of work to it, used and abused it and otherwise got fed up with it and caused some body damage, and tore the transmission mount brackets up pretty bad. Then he threw it outside for a while and told me to come get it. I let it sit for a while till I couldn't stand to see it anymore, so I spent a few hours tuning up the engine, welding up brackets, cleaning, etc. Runs quite well now and it is my main mower. Once this mowing season is over it will get a tear-down, paint and engine tune-up. Needs new head gaskets and some steering gear, and a little bit of TLC but is otherwise a solid old tractor!

Re: gilson - montgomery ward pic thread

G'Day,
I have a MW garden tractor that I think is a 1979, I got the 1979 MW Suburban Farm & Garden catalog, and it doesn't list this tractor at all. Can anyone give me any help in IDing this tractor?
Thanks!

Re: gilson - montgomery ward pic thread

ldbill there is one like it in the 1978 catalog, stickers on the hood arent the same but the machine is.
Also looks like there are 2 model numbers for this machine depending on which tires you wanted turf or ag tires. Yours should be the TMO-33411A
Another thing interesting is the model numbers im seeing start with TMO which makes this a MTD so you might be able to still get parts.
Have you found the date code on the motor yet? It should be stamped on the shroud or on a sticker on the shroud.
If thats the machine that was on ebay out in cali look on the back of the manual for a 9 DIGIT code xxx-xxx-088 & with that you can get the year off the MTD website.

Re: gilson - montgomery ward pic thread

Hi,
Thanks for the info, yes it is the one that was on eBay. The tractor came with more stuff than he had in the auction, which was cool. I will check on the numbers tomorrow, thanks. I hope you had a Merry Christmas, and Happy New Year!
