Re: Heat Wave

In DC area, the temperature this evening went from 99 down to 80. We had heavy winds and little sprinkle of rain. Tomorrow 90 and 80's rest of the week. The weather map shows lower Penna. getting rain now as I type.

Thanks for your service and yes things could be worse. I could still be trying to run 4 window A/C units or have no a/c at all and have to sleep in the basement to stay cool.

More outside work, digging and setting Bollards for the new urgent care. Dang it was hot with the sun beating down on us. It was 76* when I left for work at 5am. By the time I got there at 6 it was already 82*, by lunch it was 92*, on the ride home the truck said 98*

I sat out back with a wet washcloth to dab my head and arms and had a fan blowing on me to cool me off: cooling by evaporation! I poured water under the porch where the dog likes to sleep and she made herself a cool little nest in the damp sand there. No outside exertion Sunday. Today it was a bit cooler so I tackled garden chores.

Re: Heat Wave

Today was hot and sticky then at around 2:45 pm we got a tornado warning with hail and man did the temperature dropped to about 70 degrees and pour down rain. It really cooled things off. Tomorrow high of only 80 with showers. I hope everyone else is getting a cool down.

59 here now so heat wave over ahhhhh 59 I love it. By the time I get home it will be upper 70s. I'll take it. We have to enjoy it while we have it.

Now to find a state where the climate is always like that. 😄

Re: Heat Wave

Summer of '11 and '12 were nasty, lots of 100+ days.

Then a flip of some kind and our last 100 degree day was in June of '16. None since.

The last week or so has been muggy, thick air, hard to breath, sweat puddles just standing still, but temps only in the low 90s. Nights have stayed in the mid to upper 70s though.

Re: Heat Wave

Warm and sticky up here again all day yesterday, until the storms came through. They we're hit and miss during the day, but a massive wall came through and by around 8:00, everyone had rain and insane lightning and wind.

The temps dropped significantly, and it's barely drizzling now. But, there's a lot more moisture and probably lightning, heading our way.

There were scattered power outages, and a flood watch continues until later today.

The next few days are supposed to be milder with lower humidity. We'll see.

Re: Heat Wave

Confirmed tornado in West Yarmouth MA on Cape Cod about an hour ago!..
Lots of damage, trees down, power wires,etc...storm has cleared the coast now, tornado warnings dropped at 12:45 pm..

It poured sideways for over an hour at my house--now my ceilings are dripping in several places....had a very strong thunderstorm pass thru this area last night about 9-10:30 pm too, more lightning than I have seen in many years....
Temp is 65 degrees now--feels like winter compared to almost 100 here Sunday..

Re: Heat Wave

The roof got blown off Cape Sands Inn in Yarmouth MA around noon..

It looks pretty bad down in that area--thousands of trees downed, most snapped off halfway up,power lines down everywhere, and now gas leaks are a major concern...the town of Harwich has 93% of its homes without power, the Yarmouth area about 75% have no power--they say it may be 2-3 days before everyone gets power back...trees on home roofs, cars crushed, bad week to be on Cape Cod for a vacation!..

Re: Heat Wave

We had torrential rain and high winds for a few hours this morning, but fortunately were spared anything severe. The temperatures actually felt pretty cold today, after the record heat over the weekend.

Hopefully everyone on the Cape is OK. Lots of free firewood, I guess...

Re: Heat Wave

We had a nice relief from the heat this morning; should be a little cooler for a couple of days.
