Snow Tonight/Tomorrow

An early storm is heading our way. Originally, it was only supposed to be an inch or two, then the NWS bumped the forecast to 5-8. Most TV folks are saying three or less.

They were right about one thing: It's cold! Was only about 20F at 8 this morning.

I'm not really ready for winter. Oaks are still dropping leaves, and I have other jobs to do outdoors this weekend!!!

Snowblower needs to be test-fired tonight. I'm not too worried about that, and hoping we don't actually need it.

Stay safe, guys.

Mike

I'm having an ice storm right now... I'd much prefer snow.

Actually, I'd much prefer summer, but that wouldn't be an option.

Re: Snow Tonight/Tomorrow

Hey Mike no snow down here but temps dropped below freezing thru the night and is sitting @ 27F right now. Weather casters are predicting another night of at or below freezing temps before another warm up of high 50's to low 60's. The leaves are still falling here also but we had rain the last few days so can't even sweep yet. To make matters more challenging I discovered late yesterday that our year old beagle had chewed the foam insulation off one side of the only exposed pipe supplying an outside faucet and our local hdwe. store was out. I wrapped it with some foam tape weather stripping and covered it up until I can get to Lowe's. Later, Rudy.

We got 3 inches of snow this morning that's changing to rain. Next 10 days high of 50 and sunny.

Calling for 3-6 here. Supposed to be starting mid afternoon. Schools have already issued early dismissals. Should be a fun ride home from work.

Re: Snow Tonight/Tomorrow

Jimbo,

They've named it Winter Storm Avery. Ohio valley and east through New England, including all of PA and NJ. Depending on location, it could be snow, ice, rain, or any combination of those.

Good luck with your trip. The storm itself should be long gone by Saturday afternoon. The temps after the storm seem like they will warm back up.

Re: Snow Tonight/Tomorrow

I'm hoping my area close to Cape Cod will only get the "slushy accumulation to 1" predicted, then turn to rain by daylight Friday..

I'm not swell prepped for snow removal yet--only one tractor with a plow I could use now,and I'd have to put the plow on my pickup and see if it'll work another season, last winter the hoses were getting brittle and the pump seemed weak ,the blade lifted up slower than usual..

One of my other tractors I put a scoop/plow on needs a winch contactor, to lift and lower the blade ,and my walk behind snowblower is buried in my shed way out back, haven't used or started in in 2-3 years, last time I did the rubber friction disc drive was so worn I had to push it..the 2 stroke "joke" MTD walk behind blower I have hasn't been run in as many years also..thing is more work than shoveling..

The snowblower for my Sears Suburbans had the auger chain come off at full rpms last time I used it--and it wrapped around the drive sprocket on the gear box and bent the shaft in it ,and blew a chunk out of the shaft's bore in the gear case...

R.I.P. unless I come across a good used gearbox..and I wasn't very impressed with its performance really, even after putting rubber belting on the auger paddles either..not sure I'll bother trying to get it repaired..it too now resides in the shed, and probably will stay there..I'd be lucky to be able to get it back on a tractor too, with my back killing me--thing is a heavy s-o-b..

ya looks like a lot depends on where you are and where it goes.. first it was like 6-8 but today saying 2-3... we will see. I got the snowblower running and out front, and got 90% of the leaves picked up. Im as ready as I will ever be I guess

Re: Snow Tonight/Tomorrow

Mike..

Why did you have to post it and give it credibility? I'm heading outside to setup and fan blowing east so that most of it gets past me and lands in your yard. I didn't get to put the cab on the tractor but the rest of the gear is ready to go and tested as of yesterday. Put up the stakes around the driveway today. Ugh.. here we go.

Re: Snow Tonight/Tomorrow

North of us in Michigan they got a foot early this week. We would have had about 6” but it was too warm. Sloppy stuff around here today, which shouldn’t stick around long due to increased predicted temperatures. I still need to do my leaves, but they’re covered with snow. Maybe tomorrow evening they’ll be dry enough to blow. I’ve not had daylight this week, plus my blower has been out on loan, should be back tonight.

I will also need to get my backhoe changed out to the snowblower I got a couple months back. It seems good and tight, but sometimes you don’t know until it’s mounted and spinning. Need to figure out where to store the backhoe, too. I refuse to leave it outside, even though it’s likely lived most of its life out there up the this point.

We are supposed to get a few inches, I am ready...already plowed once about a week ago, didn't really need to, just to see if the equipment was ready.
