Best Performer You Have Ever Seen.

Hey everyone,

I was in my truck going to pick up some parts today and Keith Urban came on the Radio. It got me to thinking (a dangerous thing I know) about what a great performer he is. I went and saw him a year and a half ago I guess, up until that point I could of taken or left him but my Mom's best friend works for the local paper and had free tickets, and in the middle of Long Hot Summer I think it was he jumped down off the stage and started walking through the audience, still playing and singing. He walked up the far side of the arena into the nosebleed seats, stood on a chair, finished the song, took out a sharpie, signed his guitar, and gave it to a little girl, (she looked to be about 5). After that example of showmanship I became a BIG fan! Now, I have seen several great showman, Keith Urban, Jon Bon Jovi, John Fogerty, John Mellencamp, George Strait, and Bob Seger to name a few. But by far the best I have ever seen has got to be the Eagles. Me and my best friend Angela went to see them on the first night of the Long Road Out of Eden tour when they opened the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater in Alpharetta (my Valentines gift to her). They started at 8:00 PM exactly, no opening act, played until 9:30, took a 20 minute intermission, then came back and played until almost 1:00 in the morning without stopping. By far the best show I have ever seen. My Mom and Dad went and saw them last year and when they got home they both told me "You were right, it is the best show you will ever see." And my Mom has seen Elton John four times, once in the late seventies, twice in the eighties, and again in the nineties. So, what is the best show you have ever seen?

Joe

Re: Best Performer You Have Ever Seen.

1985 at the Providence Civic Center in R.I., Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band played their last major tour. They played two sold out shows and of the 20-30 live acts I've seen over the years, it is still the best show I've ever been to. Kind of funny, for some reason of all the concert T-shirts I've bought over the years, I kept the Bob Seger "American Storm Tour" shirt along with one of the three AC/DC t's. Now my two kids wear them to bed as night shirts!

back in 1999 or early 2000 we bought a used certified Saturn...a couple years later the Saturn Company had wat they called '5 year reunion'..this was a 3 day event..at the plant in Springhill Tenn..they had a huge tent city of all kinds of events goin on ..these tents were bigger than a football field.. for entertainment....Faith Hill & Tim McGraw performed on a stage outdoors..they said there was 100,000 ppl there that night....all Saturn owners..but durin the show we were allowed to go up to the stage...stand in front....both Tim & Faith got off the stage at times... & passed out 'hugs'..wife got a good one from Tim....& I got one from Faith....

Re: Best Performer You Have Ever Seen.

I've seen many great performers and I find it very hard to pin ONE down as "best".....

I was very bummed out this past weekend, having been forced to miss at least 2 concerts by Kathy Mattea ,I just couldn't scrape up the cash for tickets and gas and the courage to take my car 100+ miles each way with an expired inspection sticker and some potential mechanical issuses, plus the venue I was planning to go too had only a few tickets left showing online ,and I was not sure I'd be able to get one if I had gone--and my night vision makes driving after dark risky too...
....Kathy is a wonderful woman, very talented, and I have followed her career closely for over 20 years...(and she always hangs out with her fans after a show, and gives great hugs too!)....I was very upset about not being able to go..I have one more chance to go see her next month way up in NH,but its a long trip and I'm not so sure I'd be able to make it...been 6 years since I last saw her,and I'm hoping I can get there...because no more shows are scheduled anywhere in new england after that one...

Suzy Bogguss is another very talented and lovely lady I have grown to love since I first heard her back in 1988 on the radio...I've become friends with her and many other performers over the years, and missing a concert is something I hate, because you not only missed a great performance, but a chance to speak with them and hang out for awhile...to me thats more fun than the concert is in a way...

Rhonda Vincent is an amazing talent on the mandolin and several other instruments, and sings like an angel....she has probably been the "best" artist to me as a friend ,she gave me a car back in '05 at a concert when she heard my trucks engine blew en-route to a concert!....but I'd be her #1 fan even if she only gave me an autograph,I think she is just a wonderful person,so talented you find it hard to beleive, watching her live...

Patty Loveless has put some awesome shows on too,so has Pam Tillis and Carlene Carter....I'm sure Alison Krauss is great to see live, but I have yet to get myself to one of her shows...

One of the most amazing concerts I saw in Providence at the civic center was Reba Macintire, she had Linda Davis and Brooks and Dunn touring with her...her "entrance" to the stage was incredible,a small plane "taxied" down a runway and she appeared from the plane,it was very realistic, and her performance was quite entertaining....Linda Davis is the mom of Hillary Scott of Lady Antebellum, and she is a wonderful performer in her own right too...You wont be dissapointed if you go see any of these ladies perform...

Great Big Sea. Not fancy but everybody has a great time and spends a lot of time standing, dancing, clapping, and signing along.

Re: Best Performer You Have Ever Seen.

Another talented lady I've seen many times live is Lorrie Morgan....I will never forget the first show of hers I went too,at an outdoor venue in 1990,it was only a couple months after her husband Keith Whitley had died of alcohol poisoning....

Lorrie had a song out then that was a duet with Keith titled "Til A Tear Becomes a Rose"...Lorrie came out onto the stage after a short intermission, and put some ear monitors in her ears, then reached down and put a cassette tape into a tape player next to the stool she sat upon, and she did an amazingly perfect performance of that song, and Keith's voice was on the tape...as his verses were sung, she drooped her head down, and we saw tears falling on the floor,as she listened to the words, then she rose back up off the stool and sang her verses to perfection, despite it being quite evident she was very emotionally distraught ...

She got a standing ovation that went on for several minutes, and she thanked everyone who had sent their condolances regarding Keith's passing--there was not a dry eye to be found in the audience......she then broke into her next song titled "I Didn't Know My Own Stength",that I think she wrote or co-wrote after his passing.....how she was able to hold up under such emotional strain,I dont know...it was probably THE most moving concert experience I've had to date, only a few have come close to that performance...

Martina Mcbride and Trisha Yearwood are two other lovely ladies who put on great concerts too...seen both several times and they also never dissapoint...

I'm in Columbus, David, where are they from? I'd like to see them.

Don't know the best I've seen, but I have seen some good ones. We like doo wop, and have seen a few of those singers.

Re: Best Performer You Have Ever Seen.

Southaven area, good southern rock style music when i saw them. Of course, the time i did was at a music festival after about 6 hours of beer drinking so all music was excellent by then.

but seriously they are an excellent band. i wish i could catch them again but i usually don't hear about them until after they are here.

On a side note, is Old Hickory still open? i used to eat there 3-4 times a month when we had an office in town. Took my wife once, and after that every few weeks she would bug me until i drove her the 4 hours over there just to eat.
