Re: Must watch movies

Many of mine are already listed, but ONLY the originals, NEVER any remake.

To add a few:

The Final Countdown
Midway
Tora, Tora, Tora
Battle of The Bulge

Cannonball Run
The Road Warrior (Mad Max 2)

Rio Bravo/El Dorado (but there is a lot of controversy over them)

The Cheyenne Social Club (and most others with Jimmy Stewart)

Gran Prix

A few of the spaghetti westerns.

Re: Must watch movies

I didn't see American Graffiti listed
Alien. I forgot just how good it was after rewatching it recently and realized it's more of a horror movie than a sci-fi movie

Newest really good sleeper movie I've watched: Edge of Tomorrow.

Re: Must watch movies

A lot of good ones have been picked...Does anyone remember The Late Show, or Million Dollar Movie from the 50's into the 60's?..The Late Show ( Followed by the Late, Late Show ) was a different movie every night....no repeats unlike cable tv today...Million Dollar Movie was the same movie about 4 or 5 times a day for a week...and then would change to a different movie the next week...most were classics ( Mighty Joe Young, Godzilla, Rebel Without a Cause, Flying Leathernecks) and in Black and White)

Grapes of Wrath (Henry Fonda)...this will bring tears to to the toughest guys' eyes
Wreck of the Mary Deare (Gary Cooper)
Little Big Man ( Chief Dan George, Dustin Hoffman, Faye Dunaway)
Life and Times of Judge Roy Bean ( Paul Newman )
A Man called Horse
The Great Escape..A lot of great stars in this one
Kelly's Heroes
Just about any movie with Bogie, Edward G., Gregory Peck, Lauren Bacall, Carol Lombard, Claudette Colbert, Cary Grant

Best Cowboy Shootout... The Wild Bunch ( directed by Sam Peckingpah)
Best Comedy EVER..It's a Mad, Mad, Mad , Mad World
Best suspense...anything by Alfred Hitchcock
I am not a renowned film critic, however I give 2 thumbs up to the films listed

Interesting comment. What is the controversy, other than they are the same movie? "Hey, lets make a John Wayne movie with a drunk law man, a cantankerous side kick, a minor character named after a country, and a main character named after a state."

These both could have been on my list and it would be a tough call to pick one, but I think I have to go with Angie Dickenson.

Did you spot him in Cheech and Chong's "Nice Dreams" or "The Blues Brothers"?

It's a bit political (OK, a lot), so we can't get into it here, but .....

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rio_Br...gh_Noon_debate

And there are some things about Walter Brennan too .....

Re: Must watch movies

That link also mentions:

"John Carpenter's 1976 film Assault on Precinct 13, though not a remake of Rio Bravo, was inspired by the film. Carpenter borrowed some elements from the earlier film's plot, but set it in 1970s Los Angeles. He also paid homage to the original film by using the pseudonym "John T. Chance", the name of Wayne's character, for his editing credit.'

Which again is a great film that never should have been remade.

Re: Must watch movies

Did anyone mention the 1941 film "Citizen Kane", Orson Wells? At the end he mumbles "Rosebud".
When my great-grandfather immigrated to the US from England as a young boy his parents told him he could bring one thing.
So this is my Rosebud...early 1800s.
