Your Gravelys have been busy. I'm sure that your Model D deserves the rest that you are giving it.

The 7240 looks nice. I have never used a Multi Mower, but believe that people who do like them. Maybe someone who has one can tell you if they are good, or not.

How can it posible to"make a perfect seedbed " with dual wheels. A rotary plow without front wheels becomes a digger!! This is how Ben invented the plow!

Re: What did you do to/with your Gravely today... restart 2.0

Today I upgraded the tie rod ends on one of my 16Gs. It was an easy thing to do and not very expensive. The only new parts needed were the tie rod ends.

You will need four of these: McMaster-Carr

At $6.39 each, plus shipping, and you will be at about $27 or $28.

You can use all the rest of your existing hardware to install the new ends. The ends are nearly a straight swap. The only mod is having to shorten the tie rods by about a 1/2" each. I took the same amount off both ends, chased the threads with a 3/8-24 die, and cut about 6 more threads onto the tie rods.

Be sure the measure the center to center distance before you remove the old ends. Since the new ends are a different length, the only reliable way to do this is to measure center to center.

Just reassemble using the new ends and you're there.

I chose to get the ends with zerks. They also sell them without for a little less money.

After installing the new ends I adjusted the rack and pinion and gave everything in the front end a greasing and wow! The tractor steers like a sports car. With the thrust bearings a did last year, and now new ends (with zero slop) the only part that's loose is the center tube/bolt pivot holding the axle to the tractor. I need to look into how to get the slop out of that.

Anyway, this is a huge improvement for not a lot of money. Since it was successful and at a reasonable cost, I am going to order four more and do the other 16G.

Maybe I'll do the 816S and the 812, too.

Re: What did you do to/with your Gravely today... restart 2.0

I finally got the garden planted. April was dry and warm but I had no time to plant. Just when I plowed the garden the rain started (of course). Ended up plowing again and then tilling twice before planting, but the soul worked up pretty well.

The C8 doesn't plow quite as deep as I would like but still did a good job. I think I'll experiement with switching the tiller to turn opposite the wheels. I've heard people on her talk about it but I've not heard how well it works. I always seems like the tiller does better when I back up than when I operate in forward.

While waxing my car today, I noticed my Pro 10 sitting in the corner looking a little dingy, so I went ahead and put some wax on it! Attached is a before picture on the left and an after picture on the right. Did give it a little shine. I waxed just the hood. Anybody else ever waxed their tractor, or is this crazy?

I used the rotary plow on the front of my 816 to hill my potatoes this evening. This thing is a beast! Eight 60' rows done in about minutes. Love the seat time, of course.
