So I had a fella tell me he had some 2 wheel stuff for sale. L8 Super Conv with a bunch of attachments. After he listed the attachments, I asked him for the price on machine with tiller and finish mower. He told me $2000, $1400 without the mower cause the are extremely rare and need a special adapter.
Way to rich for my blood, I'm no expert so I don't know if they are rare or not. If anyone is looking for one and willing to drive to MO for it, I'll give ya his number.
He also quoted me $200 for a set of dual wheel adapters and weights for my L. I am pretty sure I can buy them new for that from Richards.
Unless what he has is in Like New condition then yes he is asking way more then the present Gravely market for L's is at, perhaps 20 years ago, but defiantly not now. I would bet the finish mower requiring the "special adapter" is a newer mower that requires a Quick hitch, defiantly not rare. His price for the duel wheels seems a bit pricey.
An L8 in good running condition with a 40" commercial mower deck should go for around $500-, at least that is the general area I've send them priced at. On the opposite end, a non running L8 without an implement goes for about $150-$200, a 40" commercial mower deck in good shape about the same price. Most L's are quite worn as well the mower deck, both generally requiring a few bucks to get in good serviceable condition. Keep in mind these prices are subject to what the local market is asking.
An L8 in running condition with a 30" bush hog (106 drive) is about $450 package here in PA. Personally, I would not buy an L8, preferring a C8 with the side-mounted air cleaner, aluminum carb. and 7.6hp head. Even one of those in electric start with a couple attachments should set you back much more than $750 or so.

I completely agree with the above statement. Another reason to go for a later C8, 71' and up, is for the improved swiftamatic differential and the Fwd/Rev lever. The swiftamatic diff was improved so it would not eat it self, the Fwd/Rev lever was moved closer to the operator as well configured so when moved toward the front of the tractor the tractor move forward.
And be willing to walk away and not bite on the high priced stuff. Enough slump in sales and the market will come back down to the reasonable levels we had a few years ago.
This has original paint, and not including the dual wheels, the price last fall was $1,000
Lots of people passed on it, before I bought it,,,, :dunno:
