gravely 8122 belt

I have a mid 80s 8122 with what i think is a 40 inch deck. Anyone know the correct belt size? I think it is 114 inches but I dont know the width. My manual does not tell me and all the info I find is on 50 inch decks. Also why do the belts break so fast, everything turns freely and the adjustment is to specs. Its not fun tearing the deck off. Thanks Bob

Re: gravely 8122 belt

I hear ya on that one..... My deck weighs north of 500 pounds..... Good quality belts are the best answer. The generic fellers won't necessarily have the right profile, and that makes 'em wear faster. *real* gravely belts are more expensive, but, they last longer too. Different manufacturers measure their belts in different ways as well.... makes for some variation in actual length.

Also gotta make sure the belts are tensioned properly. It's not a 'set it and forget it' thing. Set it, run it for 5 to 10 minutes, reset it....

If it's a finish mower, don't use it as a brush hog either.

If you have the part number, you can usually find a place that will tell you what size it is.
