Trouble identifying an old Gravely walk-behind

Good Morning,

I bought an old Gravely walk-behind mower that hadn't been run in a number of years. I can't find any charts that match my serial number to clearly identify what year or model it is. There's a plate on the side of the advance casting that says C343882. I believe the mower is a convertible with the super features (electric start, governor, and two forward speeds). Richard at Richard's Lawn Mower suggested that it was made around 1975, but I'd like to know for sure.

Do you know of any chart that would show information for a mower with a serial number of C343882?

Thanks for any help you could give me.

Tom,
I am still a Gravely novice but that number is 'off the chart'! Take a look at this link from GTGravely as it lists the old walk behind serial numbers by year - Gravely Serial Number Chart. Post a picture and the knowledgeable folks here will chime up and help you out.

I wonder if that isn't a casting number?

Pix are literally worth a thousand words.

How about the air filter setup? side mount, under hood, oil bath, paper element?

The directional control lever on the right handle bar, is it push forward to go forward, or pull back to go forward.

These are getting to be fifty yrs since Gravely produced the last one. Lots of part interchange could have occurred.

Re: Trouble identifying an old Gravely walk-behind

Thanks for all of the responses to my post. You are completely correct. The number that I had written down in the past is 100% wrong. I have no ideas where I got it, I went back and looked at the plate on the advance casting and it is actually 94050.

The mower has a vertical spark plug, a paper air cleaner on the left side of the engine right by the carburetor, a two-forward-speed transmission, and an electric starter.

The chart that I just looked at indicates that it is a 7.6 HP engine on a convertible model that was manufactured in 1973.

Thanks again for straightening me out.
