60 inch deck spring assist pins

I am installing a 60 inch mower on a G-20 but there are no spring assist pins on the tractor. I have looked in the parts manual for a part number but the pins are not shown. Does anyone have part number or source? The pins go just aft of the front side panels and are installed in the bottom hole which is threaded. thanks for any help.

Re: 60 inch deck spring assist pins

31688 is the P/N for the long pin for a G-SERIES. It's listed in the 60" deck manual.

Re: 60 inch deck spring assist pins

I inquired about these at Jack's a while back and they were NLA. Good luck with that one.

I made my own a few years back. They work fine. In this picture you can see them next to the shorter 800/8000 size bolts. I got 3-1/2" grade 8 bolts, two nuts, and a short length of tubing. I drilled a few holes into the tube to allow me to weld it in the middle in addition to the ends. Slip the tube over the bolt. Set the nut to the proper depth and tack weld in two spots. Butt the tube to the nut and weld it. Weld through the holes and then weld the other end. Clean up the welds at the now-formed groove beneath the bolt head and you're done.

Not so pretty but they're still on the tractor and haven't bent at all. I used the washers to protect the tractor's paint. Next time, I would use tubing with thicker walls.

You also need to bend the handles of the latches so the clear the side of the tractor grill. You can that in the picture, too. Those are very old 400 series latches. The ones for the G tractors are identical except for the handle bends.

I tried to make the links, too, but one of these later failed (rather spectacularly). The were made from the biggest mending straps I could find at the hardware store. Ooops!

Re: 60 inch deck spring assist pins

Sure looks good to me, as good as the original. If you can make stuff like that I wouldnt bother looking for replacement parts.

Thanks for the information. I found the part at 3 websites-all at the price you mentioned. The part number has been updated to 08729600.
