What would you offer for this assortment of equipment?

I've had someone contact me about some gravely stuff they have. I was particularly interested in a parts tractor for my 8163, but I suspect this is going to have to be a package offer. I'm only really interested in the 817 and maybe the mower, unless there are some compatible components on the walk-behinds. Everything else would need to be sold off. He says the 817 runs, except that it is missing an ignition switch.

What would you consider a great price and what would just be a fair deal?

This is in Southwest Michigan.

Re: What would you offer for this assortment of equipment?

A few thoughts based on those less than informative pictures:

The 817, judging solely by the paint I can see, and assuming it is true that it runs, appears to be more than a parts tractor. I could see up to $500, depending on condition. I could also see it, even if running, as being worth just $100 if it was used hard.

I'm less conversant on the two wheelers, but assume $50-$100 per accessory, $50 or so for the older, rusty one that is stripped down. The yellow one may actually be the gem of the whole lot, maybe worth more than the 817. As I am not familiar with all the nuances of 2 wheelers, particularly those painted yellow, I will defer to the members who are more expert than I. As a WAG, $1000 would not surprise me.

Assuming the seller wants to sell and is not interested in dickering on points of collector value, I'd start at $200 for the whole lot, but be prepare to pay more - maybe a lot more.

The reality is, sales such as this are worth what you're will to pay and what the seller wants to get out of it. All of that is unknown from this thread.

Boy some good stuff there A postal L (yellow one) Wisconsin powered L are really neat. 817 one year only 77.

Whats it worth well thats a hard thing to nail down being honest.

I'd say a great price would be in free to $500 range. See it looks like a tractor guy has them. So I'd say you could end up in the $1,000 range asking price.

817 $500 ish

Postal L $100 to 150 id guess.(maybe $200 tops for the special ones) About the same going price for all L's in non running complete condition is $100.

I agree. My thoughts on that are that if I can pick it up for a reasonable price it would become the principle tractor and my 8163 would become the parts tractor.

817 - can't see if it has an engine or not
LH drive mower - sell it Those things were made far too light for serious use.
Interesting collection of parts machines.

Well its a buyers market right now. Offer to take it off his hands free for the hauling. If he accepts then you know you paid to much. I think the yellow postal unit would be the best of the bunch

I caught the postal one to and all from the education I have gotten from this forum. The monkey poop yellow caught my eye but what kinda confirmed it was the second I.D. plate up against the usual one. Prolly brass.

Re: What would you offer for this assortment of equipment?

From my standpoint as strictly a user, the 817 is the potential catch. Having said that, it all in the state of the engine. If the paint looks that good then there's a good chance that all other moving parts (with the exception of the engine) are good too.

The Postal and Wisconsin may be nice if you are a collector. I agree with Richard regarding the attachments.

Be sure to bring an ignition switch, battery and jumpers when you return to look at it. The engine may not even turn over. Once you prove to the seller that it does not run, you can strike a fair deal.

You make a good point, Richard. The place looks like a parts yard for a small engine shop--so there's a good chance that many if not all of these machines were brought there in non-running and possibly broken condition. I am guessing that since the seller has gathered up all of the Gravely items for "group photos," he's pegged their value at what he believes to be much more than $300.

Re: What would you offer for this assortment of equipment?

That round deck looks like the best thing out there to me. It doesnt look like its thin or rusted through even around the edges. Just in comparison to the junk I see for sale on the net that is.
It looks like it has both front and rear skirts on it to and if they are in decent condition they are worth something, especially to me right now. I would love to have two decent skirts/guards for mine, all I have is a beat to heck rear one that Im gonna have to pay some machine shop to beat it into some kinda shape. Maybe with one of those automatic hammers like a black smith uses.
