Is there a good simple safe free check book management client?

Thanks,

Re: checkbook management

Walt, depends on whether you want basic functions or advanced functions like double book keeping ledger entry. There are templates in Microsoft Excel and Open Office for a checkbook register that don't cost anything if you have that software . If you want anything fancier you are probably looking at something like Intuit QuickBooks, Peachtree or similar software at a cost for the license.

In Excel select "Open" then "New" and in the search box type "checkbook" should result in something like this that you can download and use:

Re: checkbook management

OK, will look at that. I downloaded MS Money plus but I do not want any connection to the Internet, Info stored on MS for instance. In fact I am thinking I want to use on a computer not even connected to Internet.

Re: checkbook management

Microsoft money is no longer internet capable, mine was offered at no charge as the sunset edition. It works offline as Money always has but I think they now recommend Quickbook as the replacement for a full featured version. Mine still shows the links but I don't believe they connect to anything any longer. I just use it as a checking account tracker and to balance the account every month. It backs up to a file within the hard drive.

Re: checkbook management

My online banking gives me a 30 day current record of account activity, or I can search the activity of any of the previous 18 months, and print them out if need be. I don't need the print feature since I get monthly statements via snail mail.

Bills can be paid using the online banking, but I prefer to gaze upon the lovely tellers in person and let them do it. That keeps me recognized by staff which can, and has, saved hassles with new hires demanding ID. I've been doing business at the same branch for over 40 years.

I also don't use checks. Either cash or credit card.

Re: checkbook management

If you trust no one, why not use the hand written register in the checkbook itself?
