PC Slow to Connect to Internet

Have a Lenovo PC with Windows 7. Of late, when it wakes up from hibernate, it takes a couple of minutes to regain internet connection. Have it connected with an ethernet cable to the modem. This is something that just started in the last few months. Sometimes it shows no connection on the icon in the system tray, other times it just takes a long time to start loading/downloading. Then, everything is back to normal.

Thoughts?

Re: PC Slow to Connect to Internet

I'm not very tech savvy but if you have any ethernet filters they can go bad or your internet provider may be having issues you can run a free internet speed test and compare it to your normal upload & download speeds. I'm on old AT&T 6.0 dsl and my download speed hovers around 5.8 Mbps and upload around 0.5 Mbps, if it drops much lower I call them and ask to check my service. Good luck.

Re: PC Slow to Connect to Internet

Brad, do you have a router provided by an ISP or do you own the router? Also, when was the last time you updated firmware on your PC? If I were going to be helpdesk on this I would want to make sure that PC and router are fully updated to start.

Re: PC Slow to Connect to Internet

Brad, came home today and saw an article on the Internet about rebooting the router and almost exactly the issues you were indicating on your system. Hope that fixes the issue, they recommend rebooting the router about once a month. Here in NW PA that is about how often power outages occur so it's almost automatic!

Re: PC Slow to Connect to Internet

Thanks for the info, guys.

It's our own modem/router, bought it about 6 or 9 mos. ago. Should mention everything else in the house ( 2 cell phones, TV, laptop) all work great and experience no issues.

Did a reboot help with the wired connection?

Re: PC Slow to Connect to Internet

No, didn't seem to help it. Going to explore some other aspects. Maybe the modem in the computer is the problem.

Thanks.
