1977 Horse Needs Seals

I just picked up a one owner '77 Horse with 7hp Kohler engine and bar tread tires from a guy in SD. I bought it from a fella who’s dad bought it new. The machine looks like is spent its life in the barn but in general its all there and in good condition including the hiller/furrower attachment. It's pretty cool, the dad must have been a real Horse aficionado because it appears he collected every piece of sales literature and instruction / maintenance information printed, including the manual that Garden Way has priced at $4.50 and the master parts catalog. He even has the ownership transfer card all filled out in case he sold it.

So other than normal maintenance stuff… carb needs rebuilt and the forward/reverse lever need adjusting, it is leaking from both the axle and tine shaft seals. Just looking for input on getting new seals. Is it best to just tear the machine down and take the old seals to a parts store or are there exact seals that someone can recommend that I can purchase in advance?

Alternative to new seals… I have a friend with an older Horse that drained out the gear oil and cleaned it real well and packed the entire case with grease. Not sure I’m liking that method as opposed to replacing the seals and using gear oil.

Re: 1977 Horse Needs Seals

I am told the place I have listed below is a good place to buy parts and I plan on buying parts there for a Horse I am working on for a friend. The seals are on ebay from time to time. I would stick with the OEM tiller box seals for sure, the rest you can get anywhere.
