Horse model number

I was in my local farm center and stopped by the parts counter to see if they could order tines for my horse. After talking a while they told me without a model number they can't look up the parts or tell me if what they have in stock will fit. Fine, I went home and ordered the tines myself. It did get me curious though. Is there a model number for my tiller? It is a Horse III from 1987 with the Tecumseh.

I'd reach out to TB directly. They might be able to help.

Re: Horse model number

They are the same for all horse tillers.

Here is a link to the hardened tines:

Thanks, that's the set I ordered. I had no trouble finding the tines myself. I only checked with the farm center hoping to pick them up in town instead of waiting on shipping. My real question was regarding the model number. I've never seen a model number referenced. They were adamant there was no way to look up parts without a part number.

Re: Horse model number

I want to say that's a part number for the transmission.

My second post about my Pony tiller was also about the model confusion. Never came up again!

Re: Horse model number

I'm 99.44% sure that "Horse" tines fit all Horse models. and "Pony" tines fit all Pony models. You got a parts guy that has little experience with Troy Bilt tillers and his brain has been programmed to get a model number to look up parts.

If it's FREE, it's for ME!

ALWAYS remember to remove the spark plug wire from the plug before sticking your hand in the machine!!!! The fingers you save could be your own.

Re: Horse model number

The serial number on horse models is stamped into the cast iron gear case on a flange that is next to the cover plate. This serial number will cross in parts lookup to give horse model and is used to determine the actual parts for that model number. However I think all tines sets are the same except for some very early models of the horse.
