Voltage regulator replacement 10 hp Kohler

I have a 220 with a 10 hp Kohler, runs great but gen isn't charging battery.

Can I replace the coil and point regulator with an electronic one like this ?

If so, how is it wired up?

Thanks

Did you check what the generator is putting out?....I don't think that regulator is compatible....but you may possibly need a generator also...they seem to go out simultaneously...most auto parts chain stores ( advance, auto zone) will bench test it for you....just call first and make sure that someone who knows how to us the testing equipment is there....out in rural areas NAPA seems to be pretty good with these types of parts

I checked gen output today. It has 15 volts when revved up but only 4.5 volts at idle.
I'll pull the starter gen today and take it apart and see what I can see :-)
I saw rebuild kits for them and might have to get one ...

That reg is for an alternator type system. It converts AC from the flywheel alternator to DC. Your generator outputs DC. There may be a digital conversion regulator, but I've never encountered one.

If you have a good auto electric shop in your area they can test and adjust your regulator.

Re: Voltage regulator replacement 10 hp Kohler

Thank you guys. I appreciate the help.
I ordered new brushes for the starter gen as mine looked to be half the size as new ones.

I hope it puts out more voltage to charge the battery once the new brushes are in.
